ESA medical coming up
Comments

I have attended two ESA medicals first one was excellent i felt i was being listened too, the next one just sat behind a pc screen and showed no interest in me. I am due my third medical soon. It concerns me that they do not have a special section for people with mental health problems so i will be taking a letter from my G.P. with me.0

I dont know where these horror stories come from. I can only say that I had to go to Bootle centre for my ESA medical and was treated with utmost courtesy.
The waiting room chairs had ARMS - I read one forum stating they used armless chairs on purpose to see if you sit and get up without them - RUBBISH.
I was kept waiting approx 5 mins before the examiner came to get me -not over30mins as has been reported elsewhere in these forums.
there were no 'trick' questions. i was simply asked what symptoms I suffered from and to describe an average day in my life. The examiner was attentive and not ignorant atall.
She then carried out a quick physical exam: dexterity of hands, can i stand, can I sit on exam couch, reflex tests on knees... and thats it.
If you tell the truth then you will be assessed correctly.
All this stuff about virtual cripples being deemed fit for work because they can pick up a pound coin from the floor is total GARBAGE.
I did everything that was physically asked to do with no problem.
However, I told the TRUTH about my illness and daily life and was notified this week (5weeks after exam) that I have been placed in the support group.
So anyone facing a future medical, please take the horror stories with a pich of salt. Chances are they are started by benefit cheats who have been 'found out'.
So, when people get 0 points because they're deemed fit for work, do you think ATOS is right?0 -

Many people do not have problems.
That does not mean that problems dont exist.
Im a bit confused by your story, it reads more like a description from atos, rather than what normally happens, ie more of a text book description, rather than a actual one.
You see, a lot of info on the net talking about 'typical day' and many people who have not attended one actually think the assessor sits you down, and literally asks you to describe what you do in a typical day.
Perhaps, they do in some cases, but I have never, despite multiple assessments, been asked directly like that.
Simply because that is not how the software operates, it prompts the assessor to ask questions about specifics, it's not designed for the claimaint to sit and talk about their day in general and the assessor to pick out bits.
Did you pass on physical or mental grounds?
Have you requested a copy of the medical report yet?
I can write more later about the observations they do, and the stunts they pull later on.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0
