RBS Complaints centre were amazed when I wouldn't confirm my security details when they called me. They even withheld their number.

I can't understand why Companies can't have an answer to a question that we give them so, in effect security checking them. The answer could be given on the application form.

I refuse to give details to any unsolicited calls - if needs be I will ring them

I understand they need to confirm who I am if they need to discuss my personal details with me. But if it's a marketing call, they should only need to do that if I decide I want the product.

I sometimes refuse to give any details from the outset. What astonishes me is the number of times I've been told they won't even tell me where they're calling from until I pass security. !!!!!!?!
Although, at the moment, if anyone manages to get credit using my details, I want to know how they've managed lol.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

I have removed my phone number from the records that my banks have for me so that they never call me as I got fed up of ringing them back only to find out that they were trying to sell me something. Now they can write to me or message me through the secure service on my online banking if there's anything they need to talk to me about.

I require your bank account number, your sort code, and your mother's maiden name.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler
  • This has only happened to be once - but I was half expecting the call as I had just applied for something. They did, however, tell me who it was and what it was about before taking me through security.

Name, address, dob, mother maiden name are all in the public domain anyway.
Please note: I am NOT Martin Lewis, just somebody else called Martyn that likes money saving!
  • Ask for:

    their mother's maiden name.

The first and 3rd letter of their password.

Who they pay their mortgage to.
