Far Infrared Ceiling Panels - Any Good??

I have recently purchased an old house on the Isle of Lewis which I have totally gutted. I am looking at options for a heating system within a limited budget. It seems that most of the inhabitants either use electric storage heaters or oil fired central heating both of which nobody seems to have too much good to say about. I have been reading about Far Infrared ceiling panels, they seem to be cheap to purchase, about 300 quid for an average room and very easy to install with little to no maintenance. They don't take up any wall space and supposedly allow you to run them at lower temperatures. So my question is "whats the catch and are they any good". I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who has these installed or any direct experience of them. Thanks

The catch is that
- they use peak rate electricity
- the top of your head feels hot but your feet are cold
If you insulate enough then you won't need much heat, even on Lewis.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Don't know what this is, but sounds interesting.
Wouldn't the radiation escape through the walls?
Maybe you need foil backed Kingspan.
I suspect it's useful for specific applications.0
