Going through a review at work and I am 7 weeks pregnant. Should I tell them? I thought I should and would be ok, my dad thinks it might be a bad move...advice please?!
I know they cant get rid of me because I am pregnant, but it may spur them on to think of another reason?

There are many options for you do you want to be made redundant or carry on in employment how many years service do you have.
If you stay and take maternity leave will you want to return to work.
It really does depend on your own circumstances and how you feel.
At the moment there is no reason your employers should know you are pregnant, most people keep it quite until about 12 weeks.
Not much help but do a for and against long term plans.0 -
Thanks. I have nearly 3 years service, I dont want to be made redundant and I would like to go back to work 4 days per week after about 8 months off.
I wanted to tell my close work colleagues when I am about 9 weeks, as they are my friends. But I am worried that my line manager will tell our head of dept
I always thought that it kind of kept you safe, telling them you were pregnant, not sure why I thought that.Little Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

Defintely not.
Start quietly genning up on your rights and all the company policies.
especialy holidays and pay.0 -
Thing is though, my review has been in the offing for months now, meant to start in september, but it may not. Im going to need time off for maternity appts, which i do not have to use holiday or flexi for. If i dont tell them, then i will not have this option.
Also, if my review doesnt start in september, i will be about 14 wks by then and will prob be starting to show.
I work in the LA, so policies etc are quite tight.Little Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

Is your review an appraisal or ongoing yearly management update on your employment status as you have been there over three years.
Is there any mention of redundancy or changes to your working practice.
Wait another four or five weeks then disclose the fact that you are pregnant.
As stated by G4L start checking all your rights,if there is a uniun in you workplace join.
hope all goes well Oh congratulations by the way.0 -

If they are making redundancies you can be included but that cant use being pregnant as a reason0 -
No don't tell them, they don't need to know and it may influence the decision.
IMHO

Agreed - why should a review (whatever that is) change the point at which you would otherwise have told them?
Remember that once they do know, they cannot discriminate against you ie treat you less favourably on the grounds of your pregnancy anyway, so I don't think it matters a huge amount if they do know, but if you flag it up as an issue in a review it suggests that you believe it is going to impact on your work, and that may subliminally or even overtly affect the way you are treated.0 -

Ok look at it this way, the first 12 weeks are the ones where the baby needs to "establish" itself....as in you might not get to 12 weeks which is why a lot of people wait till the 3 month scan before sharing the news. So do you want to pre empt your employers actions? I would have said no! Also, you have a right toThe basics of working while pregnant

Agree with abby about the 12 weeks - I know you want to scream from the rooftops with joy, but don't do it. I don't think you legally need to disclose until wk 21, by which time it will be getting chiller and you could get away with hiding the emerging bump a bit better.
I would personally leave it as late as possible if you think disclosure may compromise you in some way.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
