Dado rail or Not?

I'm having my whole home re-plastered right now and was wondering if I should have dado rails put up. I'm not sure if its fashionable at the moment. Any advice please? Thanks.

If yours is a period house and they would have been there originally, then yes. Otherwise, no, they will just look naff.

Its not period house. Just a regular terrace, nothing fancy. Thanks.

Regardless of fashion, if you like them, then put them up. Its your house after all.

Dadoes really work best in rooms with high enough ceilings. If your room doesn't have a high enough ceiling then don't have a dado

I'd put up a picture rail if anything - I keep meaning to as I've loads of paintings and it would save numerous holes in the wall!

I personally can't see the point of a dado - but if you want them, have them. :)

To be honest I don't really mind dado but if it's not in fashion at the moment then I will give it a miss. Thanks everyone for replying.

I love my Dado! In our lounge I did it in an antique pine finish, makes a good division between two different colours of paint and we have all antique pine furniture, fireplace etc in the room so it complements it well and makes a nice warm room.

I wouldn't. I've just pulled all mine off as they are usually viewed as old fashioned now (unless in a period property as mentioned above). Stick to nice new smooth walls.:)
