My 19yr old son refused JSA

Can anyone help me my 19yr old son finished his full time non payed apprenticship at the end of June. He applied for JSA and has been told he cannot be payed anything because he is still receiving Child Benefit.

The CB say their cut off point is september and cannot stop it till then, and yet the Child Tax Credit agency have already stopped his CTC, and now I owe them £187 for overpayments made in July !

What am I to do , and how can I support him om £20 CB per week
would appreciate any advice

It's only 4 weeks till September, surely your only income is not £20 CB??? As for the overpayment, phone them up and see if you can come to an agreement to pay back a reasonable monthly amount.

Of course you could support him on £20 a week,
Food would be minimal if youre buying for the rest of the family, his utilities consumption would be 2 or 3 quid.

apart from that he's your son, even if you got nothing, surely you would still feed him.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

£20 per week will cover his basic expenses, particularly if you explain that money's short. Hopefully it might give him an incentive to get a job quickly so that he can give you a more realistic amount for his keep and have money for himself as well.

This expectation is so depressing. From child related benefits and education to 19+ then straight onto JSA. There must be something this man (not a child) can do to earn his crust, even if only a paper round or two as previously suggested.

We are actually still in July. Surely you still have some of this money left?

Nice to know you expect the taxpayer to pay you to support your 19 year old son. He's an adult.

I assume now he's completed his apprenticeship, he is fully qualified to get a job, which is what he should be doing now.

If you can't afford to support him, it's tough.

whats he planning to do now .. surely you should treat him like the adult he is , give him the £20 a week and he can live off that because he will only get another £17 more on jsa .
You need to teach him how diffficult life will be if he doesn't get some work

JSA is £53.45. Bit more than £17.

    The decision was right though.
