Lacking motivation....

I would say that not being interested in housework is a very healthy attitude to have - it's the most exciting way to spend your life really is it? I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that you have depression!
As long as the house isn't unhygenic, people have clothes to wear and food to eat, the little details really aren't that important. Get the kids to help you while they are on holiday - offer payment or incentives depending on how old they/which jobs they can do.
With the weight loss have you tried buddying up with someone - so you can encourage each other?
Good luck!0 -
Oh for goodness sake to me this doesn't sound like depression it sounds more like procrastination (pardon the spelling!) - says she answering this post rather than fill in that job application form.
If you can't trust yourself not to go on the internet when you should be doing the housework - and in fairness if I worked 2 days a week I think I would be doing all the housework as well - then tell your OH to take the laptop to work ....yes if a grown woman can't control her urges and all that but then again we tell alcoholics to avoid pubs etc...you just have a different addition.
As for the gym could it be that you aren't seeing the results fast enough for you ?2014 Target;

I lack motivation when it comes to housework too. What I do is put on my favourite CD, put the music up and start doing the housework. It never takes as long as we think it does and you feel better when you've done everything. Housework is one of those things that you can't get away from unfortunately

I hate housework too so have developed a few ways to ease me in when it all gets too much.
- Make a to do list with only three tasks on it. There is nothing more depressing than a long list of chores.
- Make sure one of the tasks is very quick - such as making a phone call or putting rubbish out.
- Give yourself a reward - Write it down as number 4. This could be something indulgent, like reading a magazine, or some money towards a bigger reward (50p towards some new make up).
- Get some exercise, ideally outdoors. I get cabin fever if I'm indoors too much so try to go somewhere every day, even if it is only shopping to buy a birthday card. If you don't like the gym, think about something physical you would like to do. I've just discovered zumba and although I'm pathetic it's a fun class with lots of laughs and I feel great afterwards.
- TV does sap energy but if you do indulge, do housework in the breaks. It's amazing what you can do in 5 minutes.
- or do something while watching. Ironing is an easy one but sewing, cleaning windows or dusting are all possible as long as the programme isn't too high brow.
- Invite someone round - Nothing makes me rush around tidying up more than the thought of a friend seeing what a mess the house is. I find that even having a tradesperson come round gets me rushing about and moving mountains!
- For the long term, plan to avoid housework as much as possible. For example, buy clothes that don't need ironing, go for laminate flooring rather than carpet, have enough storage and train the family to clear up their mess (washing in basket, dishes in sink/dishwasher, towels hung up, etc.) As flylady says, once it's tidy cleaning is easy.

Some people would love to have five days a week in which to do housework, and then sit around and moan about it. Consider those who work full time and then have to come home and start again, with washing, hoovering, kids etc. .
When I really can't be bothered and have to 'force' myself , I make housework more fun by applying loud music and alcohol whilst doing it!
