Sofa advice

Options
I have a 2 seater and a 3 seater G Plan leather suite which is now 23 years old!! It was v. expensive but it has been a great value buy. The 3 seater is now showing signs of age - the castors keep falling off, and the leather finish is damaged on the cushions which also sag. I want to replace it but I am relucatant to throw out the 2 seater as it is in perfect condition as no one ever sits on it!! G Plan no longer make the same model so if I bought a new 3 seater in a different style it would look a bit out of place with the 2 seater. Any suggestions what I should do?

    Hi Argent,

As this is more of a home (DIY) question I've moved it over to the In my home (includes DIY) MoneySaving board to see if you can get more help and advice.

If you can't/chose not to get the 3 seater refurbished, I'd get a new sofa in a colour that goes best with the 2 seater - ie, if the existing sofas have a pattern, try to match the dominant colour to a solid colour for the new sofa, or if they're solid coloured at the moment, go for a pattern with the solid colour as dominant in the pattern. Then I'd get all new scatter cushions/new covers for existing cushions to match between the sofas.

Looking in the catalogues, sofas & armchairs nowadays are less about all matching, and more about harmonising.

There are people that will reupholster furniture that will also replace the strapping that makes the seats sag, redo cushions etc for you. I imagine this will be a similar price to a new sofa - but something that's lived with you 22 years will be a tall order to replace!

Try a Yell search in your local area for re-upholstery, and go with someone the most professional to get a great quality job.
