Texting/calling EIRE regularly from the UK?!

Hi!

Any help or suggestions much appreciated - my boyfriend lives in Ireland, I live in the UK. He is getting fed up of my texting him costing him as well as me, and my offer that I just contribute a fiver or so a month to his credit has not been taken up! ()

Any ideas? I visit EIRE regularly as it is, so have been thinking about getting an Irish PAYG SIMcard for when I visit - but that still won't help me reduce charges when I am back in the UK! FYI: I have a smartphone, he doesn't.

Of course we can talk for free over the internet/Skype/MSN/FB and so on but that only works when he is at his laptop! I would just like a way to text or call his phone when both of us are out and about in our respective countries.

Thank you in advance~

Does not make sense as it's usually free to receive a text.

Meteor.ie have a no roaming charge in Europe roaming plan which should help.

O2.ie have a plan where if you use O2 UK while roaming in the UK you don't pay a connection charge, just the call charge.

Vodafone.ie if you get Passport you pay the same call charges in the UK as Eire.

Lots of ways to save, just need to do some research. So just get a simple phone or look at roaming data charges as well.

When I was dating someone in Ireland, I got a vodafone IE sim card. They were already on vodafone PAYG over there. All they had to do was top up 20 euro and they got free calls and texts to other vodafone people. And they used to let the UK be free to receive calls in too.

So we did that and all I had to do was pay to send texts which was about 12c per text. I think last year though they capped the amount of minutes I could recieve free in the UK to 500, luckily I'd broken up by then so not a problem!
