    DON'T DO IT!!!!!!

TBH I'm not convinced you've had your full lightbulb moment yet. This site is full of people who went down the consolidation route with the best of intentions, kept their credit cards 'for emergencies' then 2 years later ended up owing same amount on credit cards plus the loan, and in even bigger doodoo than before.

I agree. If I had a £ for everyone on this site who has consolidated and then piled the credit back on the cards, I would be able to bring my DFD forward significantly!!

Focus on your debt, your lifestyle and your future. When you know for sure that you have had your lightbulb moment, you will be able to make such a big difference to your situation and will set yourself up for a very positive future.

Until then, there are no shortcuts, or you could end up in bigger trouble in the long run and your dream of having your own place in 18 months will be very hard to come by.

  • Just to update,
I had the meeting at the bank this afternoon that they arranged this morning.

I ended up telling them as was not intrested in a loan at all.

She tried her hardest to convice me other wise on there "low rate of ONLY 16.9%" no thanks!
  • With regards to car insurance, i struggle to even get quotes of most pleaces 1) because i am under 21 and 2) because of the magical T after the 1.9 on my car.

I must make a correction by the way, my car is 4 years old. the 3 was a typo before.

I have been onto trading standards about my car, but they say there is nothing i can do about it.

so far in the past 12 months it has had:
    1) New turbo
    2) New ECU
    3) New Clutch (Master + Slave) + Flywheel
    4) Some work to steering
    5) 4 New front tyres over 12 months (£150 each a time)
    6) New electrical wiring in engine bay
    7) New keys as old ones just stopped working
    8) New breaks + Pads all round
    9) x2 services
    10) New Fuel injection relays
    + other petty stuff

    Now Needs:
    1) New steering rack (Clunking noise + strange steering at times) Quote: £600
    2) New wiring for airbag system (Airbag warning lights are on) Quote: £800

this reminds me of the joke in Only Fools and Horses where Trigger says he's had the same broom for 20 years and it's only needed four new handles and three new heads!

I don't mean to make light of your predicament but that's an awful lot of stuff to go wrong on a four year old car. And a turbo too - you're paying a grand a year insurance because you're so young and it's too powerful. A lot of insurance companies reduce their prices if you do the pass plus exam, which entails a few more lessons but can cut your insurance by ££££

but personally I'd get rid of it, get a little 1.6 diesel and your fuel bills will drop too

German or Jap you cant go to far wrong. Make sure its a newish shape polo (not the old old ones with no 5th gear and an oil leak). Rather than the culture shock look for a trusty Golf for a bit more room, though they do tend to cost a bit more.

Toyota or Honda are pretty reliable (remember Top Gear and the Toyota pick up in the sea!). Just buy with your head and have someone who can tell major faults quickly (head gasket / clutch / suspension / body work).

At the end of the day, buy with your head not your heart. Sleep on it. Research (https://www.parkers.co.uk)
  • Just an update, i have started to get everything into order now, and i should have at least all of my cards paid off before the end of this year!!

    Thanks

How did you go with your selling of your stuff off? Well I hope?

Also well done about the loan! 16.9% you did the right tihng in refusing that little "favour" ( when is help not help?!)

Personally Id lease a car. As you could be looking at changing your job in a while it could be you could look into doing away with the car altogether later on? I dont have a car, but from what Ive seen they are nothing but grief every one I know has probs with cars aside from my mate who has a age old cinquencto ( sp) and its sailed its MOT with nothing to report ( aprt from new tyres) for the last 4 years.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Unfortunately I need to go to work so I've only read the first page of suggestions so please forgive me if this has been mentioned or is no longer relevant.....but I have a small idea for your extra work which would tie in well.

Quite a lot of the newer Internet services type businesses employ people on a work from home basis providing technical support etc. Usually the hours are very flexible as they would rather have the hours dotted through the day and night as it extends their opening hours. Could that be of any use to you?

    Good Luck

Thanks, yeh, "when is a good deal not a good deal?" When Lloyds TSB are my Bank lol!

With regards to the car, that is the route i have gone down, i have decided to lease a VW Polo, after loads of bartering i managed to get an excellent deal on a mid spec car. (got it cheaper per month than the base spec one) pick the car up on the 20th and it is brand new, should be making its way across the UK at the min.

My ebay items are doing well, i am expecting to gain a little more in the next few days.

    Thanks Again

    Chris
