New Sky Entertainment Packs

Hi everyone,
We have been with sky for a number of years and just now I was paying my bill and browsing through their website when I saw a big banner mentioning about price freezes,so out of curiosity I clicked on it and as I was reading through the page they mention about only having 2 packages from september, one costing 20.00 (basically freesat from sky) and another package costing 25.00 (with all the good channels, including kids cartoons). Can they do that without informing customers? I havent received anything about such changes. Has anyone heard anything? Do we have to accept these new packages (pay more) or can we cancel? I have a min 12 month contract for sky hd and multiroom with 9 months left (roughly).
Thanks in advance,
L x

Got a letter from Sky about this last week. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Considering subscriptions have been frozen for 12 months how do you work out you will be paying more? It means exactly what it says - unless you change your packages your subscription is frozen until September 2012 and dependent on what mixes you are on at present you may actually gain channels for no increase. As for altering prices enabling early cancellation - try reading your terms & conditions - clue there is a provision in there for annual price increases.
By the way the basic package is NOT equivalent to Freesat from Sky - it is the equivalent of two present mixes. I think you need to read those webpages a little more carefully.0 -
There was a letter about this enclosed with the Sky magazine (which admittedly is a waste of paper and which I rarely bother reading).0

I got my letter from Sky yesterday.
I'm on two mixes - entertainment and documentaries - and it says I'm being upped to the top £25 mix at my current price.
These changes by Sky are obviously being done because too many people have been switching to have only the two mixes like I have. The cookery and knitting mix has been losing viewers hand over fist which has made TMC complain about loss of income, which is why they have put this with entertainment on the starter pack for £20.
I shall start my Sports channels again when the footy season starts up (before the Sept 1 deadline) to keep my price freeze.
PS. With the Formula One deal announced yesterday, I hope the BBC realise they will get much better viewing figures if they show the Grand Prix races between the close of the 2011/12 and start of 2012/13 footy season when many, like me, cancel their Sky Sports subs. Hopefully the BBC will ignore GP races in March, April, Sept and Oct and show the ones in May, June, July and August."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

BBC don't have a free choice. They get Silverstone, Monaco and the last race, then Sky pick 3 which they will have exclusive, then BBC pick 3, and so on. I'm sure Sky's picks will be aimed at maximising subscriptions.0 -
The thing I don't like about it is you are now paying for channels you don't watch or want.I have no rug rats so have no need nor desire for kiddies tv,I don't use the music channels,so again, something I don't want. The existing packs I have are just what I want to watch & nothing more. This change is Sky moving to goalposts to make more money when the price freeze ends.0

Thanks everyone.
On the webiste it does not mention they will be moving current customers to one of the new packages at their current price until next year, hence my post.
I agree with one of the above posts, there are many channels on these new packages many customers dont watch and it is just a way to make more money once the price freeze period is up.
I never read the sky magazine, goes straight to the recycling box lol, no wonder I wasnt aware of the changes :rotfl:.
Once again, thanks everyone.

Totally agree with you.
This move on Sky's behalf is because customers have been exercising their rights to ditch the mixes they don't want and save themselves a couple of quid a month. I only have Entertainment and Documentaries, as I don't want pop music, kids progs, and cooking and knitting. By now only having two mixes, Sky are removing this option of selection.
However, it could backfire. Someone on the full Sky World plus HD will pay £62.25 a month. Let's say they go on holiday for a couple of weeks - they can cancel Sky by giving a month's notice and save themselves more than £31, and start up again when they come back. A three week holiday equals bigger savings. That's a bigger saving than you could have made with only having one or two mixes. This is assuming you're out of the initial 12 month contract. And it won't work if you have Sky Broadband as you have to have TV to have that.
And of course, there is the cancelling Sky Sports outside of the football season option saving about £80.
Money Saving is possible with Sky but you have to be careful how you do it."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

You can have Sky Broadband without TV - http://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-only/0 -
Hi everyone ... I'm not liking the new sky tv bundle. I haven't checked which channels fall where yet, but they're moving me from my 2 packs to the full whack. As a F1 fan I'm also gutted that sky have it for next year as F1 is the only sport I watch so it seems crazy to have to take the sky sports package to watch a couple of races a month!!!
Anyways, on another note ... I don't think much of their "price freeze". Anyone else noticed the line rental price hike??
I'm actually very tempted to cut sky altogether and look at alternatives. Serves them right for being sneaky and greedy!0
