Hi hoping someone can help as not sure what's going on.
We (the whole street) have been having issues with a neighbour's son who drives very dangerously, has caused a serious accident once already and very nearly caused several others.

He has been reported to the police and council and we were told he would he was under a section something or other and one more report and the car would be seized.

The car vanished and all went quiet for a few weeks until recently when he almost run some people over in a new car. Again reported to police who asked us to get the reg, so we did, however they are saying nothing is coming up on their system and we must have it wrong. We have checked it several times to make sure it's right and called back up but they refuse to do anything until we have a reg plate that comes up on their system.

Is there anything that we can do, and does anyone know why it wouldn't be recognised?

Sorry for the waffle just getting so fed up of him and desperate to stop him before he kills someone and thats not being dramatic :(

Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn't ok then it isn't the end :)

Incorrect spacing? Mistyped / false plates? Does it show up on AskMID / HPI stuff etc?
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

    I've been Money Tipped!
If he is displaying a plate with a number that the Police do not recognise as valid then ask them to record all details as a formal incident and ask for the reference number.

If you can, get a photo of the car and plate (using your phone?) but don't put yourself at personal risk to do this.

If nothing is done within 2 days, call again and ask to escalate your call as a complaint because you have a serious concern that the individual is purposefully concealing the identity of his vehicle and is already known for his dangerous driving.

How close can you get to it? if he's driving dangerously then he's probably not wanting to get snapped on an ANPR.
Letters on number plates are black and so it electrical tape

incorrect spacing will still be the same reg number, it'll just have spaces in different places.

Can't really get close to it as when he isn't driving its on the drive which is rigged up with cctv.
I think it's changed plates today though and when I rang them it's now being recognised but its different to the other one but they said because they never saw the other they can't do anything about it.
The new plate is showing up on ask mid as insured and the correct car so god knows what he is playing at.

The Police just don't want to know/have only checked on their "wanted/known criminal" car registration database. Had this issue before myself.

There is a check that the police can do which will show up all vehicles registered to addresses at a certain postcode. If you know the address of this person and the full postcode ask the police to do check on the postcode. If the car is registered to this person at his address then it should show up on this check.

There is no such database. The only checks they can do are on the Police National Computer, which is linked to the DVLA database. This will show up all vehicles that are registered to DVLA, and will include where police have added reports to individual records to show an interest, but the reg number is needed to carry out a check on the PNC.
