Ebay am i being Robbed ?

Options
Hi,

I recently sold an expensive stereo via ebay now the buyer is saying it is not working correctly saying the Dab radio is only picking up 1 station & i have suggested they check all the connections as it has a seperate metel ariel attachment and read the full manual or contact Arcam whom provide excellent service & advice who supplied me a new free remote control last month! the stereo was in full good working order i took pictures of each setting working + serial number etc.. mintues before packing i also wrapped it extremlly well so it would not incur any damages now he is asking for a full refund which if i agree i will be left with a repair bill + be out of pocket for p&p. for an item i used daily & was in working order! & had 28 pre set dab stations why did he try to change them? he has also brought it to another home to test as a family member also has one? did they use parts off mine to repair the other? did he drop it? he has great feedback seems poilte but i know it was all working? i was self concious of selling on ebay now it seems i may have been right!! that's why i took the pic's. Where do i stand as i feel i am being conned the item was perfect before he got his hands on it ? someone please help me?

I assume this is a private sale?

Did they use PayPal? If so paypal will likely decide in buyers favour anyway i'm afraid, whether your being screwed or not. I'm so sick and tired of eBay buyers, i've won 3 buyer protection cases so far this month as a seller because of ridiculous claims! This is especially good since eBay also tend to side with buyers.

Unfortunately your pictures aren't really much use either. They could have been taken at any time, datestamps can be changed. When taking photos to use as evidence it's recommended to put that days newspaper in the picture to identify the earliest possible date the photo could have been taken.
  • It is so unfair i could understand if it was a cheap item but it was a sound expensive one or if i had poorly packed it or even if it had been damaged on delivery but it clearly shows that it is working allthough the buyer may live in an area with poor signal strength. Can i not contact ebay & explain i'm getting ripped off by him? Is their no way i can protect myself? I feel that ebay is becoming out of control as i have read many posts of people getting items then claiming & ending up with both :(:( I was going to offer the buyer to send the stereo straight to arcam & get them to do the invesigating then i thought what if he causes internal damage to it? please guide me ?

RM and couriers are not noted for gentle handling, if it was dropped onto a hard service could this have caused the damage?

Ebay is now a pretty crappy place to sell anything - expensive and risky, I really only shift cr** on there now, stuff marked 'spare or repair, no refunds*!

I suggest that you may be making the problems for yourself then. You cannot insist on no refunds, if a buyer claims SNAD then paypal will almost always find for the buyer.

If you use ebay properly then it is still one of the best places to sell online, many of us successfully run businesses on there.

If the buyer starts a SNAD dispute in Paypal then they will be asked to return the unit to you at their cost and you will have to refund them the original price they paid. They will therefore loose out having to pay the return trackable postage.

There might be a tiny number of people on ebay who try and scam etc but there are far more productive ways of doing it

It sounds to me as though the unit genuinely doesn't now work and it is unfair for the buyer to have to keep the unit. It is only fair that they should be able to return it for a refund. One of the reasons why sellers on ebay get good prices is that buyers have the confidence of Paypal protection. I think your best cause of action is to have the unit returned, refund and look at getting it fixed so you can try and sell it again
  • I have asked the buyer if there was any damages he has said no! I have also explained to him that if it is the case that he just does not want if fair enuff he can have a refund but be truthful! but he is claiming everything works but on the dab radio he just is not as many stations there were 28 pre-set stations on it he has erased them all? Clearly it shows it is working? & he just is not happy so why claim a fault that ain't there?. Also i have suggested that it be sent direct to manfacturer once i get through 2 them to check for faults or tampering! My main concern is i am now down a heck load of money for a transaction with him? and possiably a repair bill, I've had a look at his feedback & it seems to be that he buys broken & faulty items to repair other items that is my main fear a buyer has protection so is their protection for a seller i thought the increse in fee's were also covering insurance via ebay & paypal?.

what woul d you have eBay/Paypal do?
in these cases it he says/she says
get the buyer ot return the item to you
  • Being able to get stations on a DAB radio depends on where you are. I live in lancaster my OH lives in nottingham and we both have the same DAB radios but we get different digital stations. The buyer may not live in a good area.

There is a website online you could check the buyers postcode on to check how good the signal is where they live maybe if it isnt a good area then this could help if the buyer opens a case?

    The website is:

It's best just to be polite to your buyer, apologise for it not work, suggest that perhaps they're in an area where the signal isn't very good, and ask them to return it (at their own cost) for a refund.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
