http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_search.aspx you can put your details in and play around. Try putting in now with SMP and see what it says. Good luck

hi u should def apply for housing and council tax benefit now, even if its oly a few pounds a week so when the time comes in december when you are getting less moey all you have to do is just go in to the council with paperowrk saying smp has finished and your tax credit award notices and they will photocopy them and you should get a letter in the post about week later with your new housing and concil tax award. it will save a lot of time as they already have you o the system. hope this helps.my husband use to earn 200 a week and out rent was 110 a week, and we only had to pay 40 pounds a week for rent we couldnt believe it!

Thank you both for being understanding and actually nice lol shame not everyone on here are like you's.

Life is hard and people that work hard in life deserve help with what ever they can.

Your right i havent, as regards that, child care costs are alot of money and the job she did before leaving for maternaty she gets paid minimum wage so not alot. All the money she would get would go into child care which is why there is no point in her returning to work.

You would get substantial help with childcare through tax credits you would still be better off if she worked.

Which is why I suggested she works evenings and weekends. You can look after the child.

To be honest, I am getting heartily sick of posts like this. There have been some strong opinions but no rude or abusive posts. People come on here with a wealth of experience; the OP has already said he is young so we are willing to give the benefit of our knowledge. This should be thanked - not insulted. And for the record I HAVE had financial difficulties - my husband was unemployed for a YEAR. We received no help at all. We managed entirely on my wage. How? By making sodding cutbacks. By saving money everywhere we could. This is what I have suggested the OP does. If you, or the OP doesn't like it, then might I suggest you take your problems elsewhere.
  • i cant believe some ppl think 1300 is more then enough to live on!gas, elec, petrol, rent, council tax, food, phone subcription,tv licence, car insurance, water bill, and these are just the essentials of living. ppl say stop sky and stop phone contract well most if not all of the time you are in a contract so cant!i am in that situation aswell icant get out of my gym subscription which is 70 a month with my husband i would love that extra money but i have no choice but to keep paying it until my contract ends.you need to be able to live not just get by.i think you will be surprised how much the council tax and housing benefit will be,we certainly were! also terry nappies arent that cheap ither for a starter pack it costs around 60 quid then a few months later u have to get the next size up not to mention all of the cleaning fluids you have to buy and elec and water as youwill have the washing machine on constantly

This a money saving site - the reason for its existence is to help people manage their money better so they can live on less.

If you're trying to support a family on one part time wage then you have to accept that, for a while at least, you have to just "get by" . Benefits are to help people survive financially, not to support a certain style of life that people may want but are unable to afford.

I spent about £100 on reusable nappies for my LO - mostly pre-loved. I do 2 extra loads of washing per week and have not bought any extra cleaning products at all. Today's nappies can be dry-pailed.

£120 per month seems way over the top for formula and nappies. My LO was breastfed for 7 months and now gets through half a £7 box of 6 month plus formula per week. Are you wasting a lot of milk? I refrigerate anything my LO doesn't drink and top it up with fresh later. Sometimes he'll wolf down 6 oz, other times it's just 2. I make a 4oz bottle to start with.

Nappies cost around 10p each (branded). Even at the top end you shouldn't be spending more than £1 a day on them!

So even if your LO is getting through four times as much milk it should only be £60 per month, plus £30 in nappies maximum.
Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

Why would you be sick of posts that say nothing about you. i was thanked for pointing him in the right direction to claim what the OP is entitled to.

and yes there are people on here very helpful, but also some that just say the OP should manage. Just because you chose to manage doesnt mean the OP is wrong to claim what they are entitled to.

just for the record the OP did not insult you, no one did. Also i do not need to take my problems anywhere as i dont have any, but thanks anyway

Actually, every single post on here offered the OP good, constructive advice although, interestingly, the only posts he thanked were those about getting more money from benefits.

The information you gave was actually given yesterday in his very first reply, which was why everybody else went on to offer additional help by cutting down spending and bringing more money into the household by earning.

Perhaps you could tell me why i get attacked for helping someone.

At least the OP works, all he was asking for was a little help. I am sure the OP Has appreciated comments/suggestions to help him make cut backs. Some people just run up debts then go Bankrupt.
