Amazon & Price Drops?

Options
Hi firstly sorry if in wrong forum

With Amazon I cancelled an order on same day for 'Sony LCD TV " £743.99 due to the fact it had dropped in price within hrs of ordering £75.01. I have received an email to say the items cannot be cancelled? Yet the items do not show up in my order history any more? I have sent a msg asking if they could confirm whether the items have been cancelled or not?
I did think if an item had dropped in price before even dispatched let a lone delivered you would receive the difference? Where does one stand when items drop in price on the same day of orderimg?

Really would appreciate your help in the situation

Thx

There is no longer any policy regarding refunds if the price drops after ordering (post purchase price promise) and this is what would have covered the price drop after you ordered, regardless of whether or not it had been dispatched.

The only similar policy they have is regarding pre-ordering goods, in which case you will pay the cheapest price between ordering and dispatch, which may be what you are thinking of.

You do have the right under DSR to return it and order at the new price, but you may be responsible for return shipping.

I've found amazon CS pretty good and they may, out of goodwill, refund the difference if the order isn't cancelled.

Of course you can cancel, distance selling regulations allow you to cancel any time before delivery and up to 7 working days after.

The drop in price is a different issue, you won't get a refund because a product is being sold cheaper but I can't see any reason why having cancelled it you wouldn't be able to order it again at the lower price.

You don't have a legal right to the difference back -- however, you do have the right to cancel under DSRs anytime upto 7 days after receipt of goods for a full refund in which case you can then order at the new price and save money, although most companies will simply refund the different to save the hassle of returns ect.

Why won't it let you cancel? If its because it's been dispatched you will likey have to pay the return postage also. Although for £75 different it may be worth paying. Although I can't imagine an expensive TV being dispatched so quickly, phone them and confirm.

these sorts of things usually have paid returns - I have had cases where items are being prepped for delivery and I called them and while on the phone they could cancel it well after the web status said I couldn't

You have to go through the web help interface for instructions on doing this...

I've had trouble cancelling an order before delivery with Amazon. It doesn't seem to be possible...naughty.

Normally I have no problems cancelling amazon orders before delivery - however if they've already entered the shipping/pre-shipping phase it's a little harder than when they are just "outstanding", as you effectively have to do a return to them (I suspect given the size of Amazon's operation that once an item is printed out for picking/packing it's impractical for them to try and stop the package).

Likewise if it's an item sold by an amazon seller you usually can't cancel, but have to do a return as Amazon send the order information off to the seller and I don't think they have a way to guarantee a cancellation.

For example at the moment I've got about 10 outstanding orders with Amazon, I can cancel all but one that is packing easily.
In the past when I've ordered stuff from third parties the option to cancel hasn't been there, but the option to request a return has (but may be a little harder to action than Amazons own automated system).

When the TV is delivered, don't accept it or better still don't be in on the delivery day. It'll go back to Amazon and you cancel from there.

They'll just chap neighbours doors and get them to take delivery.

Even if the OP takes delivery, Amazon are usually very good at handling returns of items like TVs with no cost, other than the inconveinance, to the customer. I recently had a plasma TV delivered on a Monday, cancelled and collected on the Wednesday with a full refund by the end of the week.
