You are totally missing the point. Getting an "engineers report" is totally irrelevant in such a case. It is not needed - the item is still under guarantee from the manufacturer. Why waste money ??
I agree...but you wouldn't go to Argos to claim under the manufacturer's guarantee.
If you buy an item from Argos (or anywhere) you normally have a one year guarantee from them.
This is news to me. In pretty much every case I can think of, the guarantee is given free from the manufacturer. Sometimes it's the retailer that does the repair for them, sometimes they do it direct. But the retailer has no requirement to give or service a guarantee, any more than the manufacturer is required to provide remedy under SoGA.
If the manufacturer gives an additional 1 (or more) year on top of that, then it is no use going back to Argos - generally, they have no legal obligation to meet after their one year - why should they repair it ?
    That's what I was saying...?

Sorry but you are completely wrong there.

If you buy something then the retailer is responsible NOT the manufacturer

" It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract."

I think you have proved my previous points most admirably...............

You really ARE missing the point. Esqui never said the retailer isn't responsible UNDER THE TERMS OF THE SOGA. We are talking about the manufacturer's warranty here and as far as manufacturer warranties are concerned these are nothing to do with the retailer. :wall:

Surely lots of bad advice and confusion here. The product is 14 months old and there is a two year manufacturer guarantee. You could waste your time with Argos as it's beyond the usual 12 months, and with a lot of hard work you might be successful or unsuccessful, or simply just use the manufacturers guarantee.

Just a quick update if you're interested.
Contacted Nilfisk on Monday morning, they arranged a courier to collect it same day, expect to have it returned or a replacement couriered back this week. Excellent service. Will steer clear of Argos in the future! Originally bought from them as "high street presence" rather than through Amazon etc in case of problems. Learnt my lesson.

What exactly have Argos done wrong here? This is what they told you to do in the first place.

Argos have done nothing wrong. Its a classic case of muddle in the OP's mind between SOGA and manufacturers guarantee.
