Thank you all, I was going to have a drink but just remembered I haven't had any tea! I've been a busy bee over the last couple of hours, stripped the bed, bagged up all the cat things and hoovered everywhere - thought I would try and be practical rather than sit around putting it off. Also spoke to DH on the phone when he was on his break so he knows what happened.

Just been reding up online and it was saddle thrombus so there wasn't really any hope :(, seems to be quite common in older cats and always happens suddenly. My husband left for work at 1:30pm and mog was sunbathing outside, one hour later he had been found and taken to the vet.

Was strange washing out his water bowl as it originally belonged to my gorgeous scabby mutt who was pts about 6 years ago - definitely keeping that for whatever pet I end up with in the future.

Will be popping out tomorrow to buy a gift for our neighbour as I really do appreciate that she took him to the vet.

  • Please, please take comfort that it happened very quickly - he was enjoying the sun and then just slipped away.

My cat bowls were originally DMs for her cat - she kept them for years and then passed them onto me when I got my old boy (sadly no longer with us) and are now being used by my current two. I was really upset when the water one started to leak but it's now great for dry so still in use after more than 30 years!

Really sorry to hear of your loss. I agree with everyone else - it is a mercy that he wasn't left to suffer and your neighbour went above and beyond. Hugs to you and cry as much as you need to - its your loss and only you know how much it hurts.

Oh how sad Shjo, I'm really sorry for your loss. RIP Old Mog. I'll raise a glass to him.

Thank goodness the neighbour got him to the vet and his end was quick and he didn't pass on scared and alone, how lovely of her to be there when your cat needed a friend.

Take good care of yourself, cry if you need to and remember your cat with happiness.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

I am so sorry to hear about your cat, as it happened so quickly maybe he didn't want you to find him like that so went somewhere else. I'm glad your neighbour took him to the vet so he didn't suffer for too long. Take time to mourn him as he was very special to you and you will miss him for a long time but be glad that you gave him the best life and lots of love that is what got me through after having our dog put to sleep (he was OH dog and was 10 when I first met him but we became best friends and I'm glad I was able to love him and spoil him for 5 years).
