Virgin Blackberry Curve offer a scam!!

I recently had an offer of a Blackberry Curve 8520 for £10.21 per month. I rang Virgin to take up this offer, BUT at the end of all this they suddenly said they had to cancel the order as my Bank account was blocked!! I rang my bank, they assured me all was ok. Rang Virgin back but they passed me from pillar to post but would not let me have the phone. I emailed "The Team" to ask what was going on but one week on have heard nothing! I rang them again but was told they couldnt do anything as my account was blocked.

When I tried to order the phone I declined all "extras" I this why I was refused?? I have an A+ credit rating and have never even been overdrawn. I said I was leaving them but they dont seem to care one dot. Its so infuriating

How can you leave them if they won't open an account for you?

Or do you mean that this was an upgrade offer that you saw somewhere?

What exactly do you mean when you say you have an A+ credit rating?

This is hardly a scam. Even if it was discovered that virgin no longer wished to offer you the deal then they are well within their rights to do so as it would seem no contract has commenced and no money has been exchanged. Just as any retailer can refuse to sell you something on the grounds that they have changed their mind.

have you ever owed them money, to any of their group
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Sorry, didnt explain very well. I have been Virgin media customer (broadband) for about 12 years and was sent a leaflet through the post offering me the Blackberry for £10 a month (as a valued customer). When I rang up to accept they kept me on the phone for 45 minutes and then at the end of it said they had to cancell the order as my bank account was blocked. This is absolutely not the case and I even checked with my bank but they still wont let me have the phone. I have never owed them or anyone else money. Hope this a bit clearer. The phone call to them cost me £5 by the way. They didnt even reply when I emailed to complain. What do I do?

This is probably not what you want to hear but there is very little you can do.

You have no contract with them and if they choose not to offer any service to you that is their choice as a business. The flyer is an "offer to treat". It tells you the deal is available, and that you may wish to take it up, but it's not a guarantee they will provide it to you at that price.

The most likely case is something has caused a problem on your application, could be as simple as a spelling mistake causing a credit check not to match correctly, or far more complex.

However at the end of the day if they don't want you as a customer then thats VM's choice. It's not a scam, foe some reason your application failed. If *everyone* failed or we're offered a higher priced alternative it could be considered a scam, but not in this case.
  • Do you have a virgin shop near by? They will phone up from shop for you so you don't pay for the call. I'm with Virgin and their customer service isn't very good I'm afraid.

What can you do? If they don't want to sellyou the package then they don't have to,
If you really want the handset by it sim free on an interest free credit card, and a suitable sim only/payg to suit.
