I want to sell a dvd that is around £6 on there, if I sold it for that how much would I make? (as I said sorry to keep asking, so used to ebay!!)
I'm not sure of the exact amount - you'd get £1.24 for shipping and would pay about £2 ish in fees - maybe £2.50. That's a very rough guide, though.
Have a look on the Amazon Sellers thread on the Ebay & Other auctions forum. You'll get plenty of expert help there.

Thanks for that finally debt free / annie
I will pay off debts as I go along I think so less interest gets me. When I get up enough money I'm going to do a bit of matched betting I think.
Thanks again, gem xx**If it wasn't this, it'd be something else!** :rotfl:0 -

My internets playing up so I found out the answer, typed the message and then it crashed so other people have given you approx answers but as I'd found it out exactly thought I'd post it too
If you sell a DVD for £6.00
Postage charge to buyer on your behalf (if sold): £1.24 for delivery within the UK*
Amazon.co.uk Marketplace fees (if sold): (£1.79) for delivery within the UK*
VAT on Amazon.co.uk Marketplace fees: (£0.27) for delivery within the UK*
Total you will receive (if sold): £5.18 for delivery within the UK*
Then DVDs normally cost 55p 2nd or 65p first as long as you just pop them in a jiffy bag.
So about £4.50 after postage and a jiffy bag.
Hope that helps - I've made myself a table of what I'll get if I list for £x for books/audio books - doesn't take into account postage as that varies so widely for books (I weigh and measure them though so I know too).
Basically for books 1p = £1.41 then for every 25p you add to the selling price you get 20p back - e.g. 25p = £1.61, 50p = £1.81, 75p = £2.02, £1 = £2.22 etc etc.
and then same every 25p you add to the selling price you get 20p back seems to work for dvds too although have only tried a few prices.
Hope that helps - I love amazon - very easy to get your money.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

Thanks for all your effort yorkielass! makes it much clearer for me! (hope some more people thanks you as my one thanks doesnt seem worthy of your effort!)
amazon seems a bit more straight forward than ebay, is it just the one set of fees to pay (selling and vat) if you sell the item then? (and of course postage!) also am I right in thnking they pay out every fortnight into your bank account?finally debt free and want to keep it that way!!0 -
10p listing day on ebay this thursday (11th) just read it on another thread!finally debt free and want to keep it that way!!0

I couldn't wait to get home from work today, as I promised myself I'd read this thread in full for inspiration and ideas.
Thanks, everyone, for the motivation!
I have decided to list one item on ebay every day, as if I try to do a load at once I get bored and give up! And this way, at least the money will be constantly trickling in (hopefully!).
One question though, I put the secret code in my listing, in white print, and did a search for all the items. I got a load of items up, but mine wasn't inclded. Any ideas why, anyone?
I've started a journal today, for both my eating, spending and ebay-ing! Hopefullythis will be anothjer thing to jkeep me motivated!
Off now to look for the matched betting threads and the weight loss ones!GOD BLESS DURAN DURAN

firstly make sure you have spelt it correctly in your listings (silly i know but in the last challenge I kept on spelling it wrongly)
also sometimes it takes a little while to show up, I know mine did!
Thinking the code is a great idea! free advertising to over 100 people in this thread! although you must remember to ask yourself the following before you bid on anybody elses item "do I need it or do I want it?"!!!!finally debt free and want to keep it that way!!0 -
How easy it listing stuff on Amazon????? Listed a pile of books / CD's / DVD's today and sold my first tonight! So easy, way simpler than eBay, but I guess it's a little less flexible. Great though, I'm made up.
I'm dead nervous - everyone seems to be running off and I've made a couple of quid, catching up to do methinks. Can't seem to find the time to write eBay listings, even with latest Turbot Lister. Probably lurking here that's done it....... And I should really be decorating too.......Annie021063 wrote:I saw a ponud coin on the roundabout at tesco today(saw it glint in the headlights) - didn't have the nerve to stop the car and pick it up!!! might keep eyes open for it tomorrow and park near roundabout and then dash out to get it!;)
Annie - did you get this quid? I've been desperate to know...... :rotfl: Just don't cause a traffic jam when you stop the traffic!!!!!0 -

No problems glad it helps.
Yes you only pay 1 set of fees on amazon and only when the item sells, they are automatically deducted and they automatically pay the money into your bank account every fortnight. It's a bit unpredictable e.g. a book I've kept relisting on there for a year (every 60 days if an item hasn't sold yet you can relist) sold today :j whereas others sell within a day but it gives me a good drip feed of money and you know how much you'll get for an item and you don't have to waste money in fees if it doesn't sell.
Anyway there's lots more tips on the amazon thread on the ebay etc. forum and if you want any more advice just ask, have fun.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000
