Backward Meters With PV Panels - Who's The Thief?

Sadly, my meter has just been changed by Npower. I agree with the principle of the poster though. Instead of receiving 1.55p of every unit we generate as an export tariff (they base it on 3.1p for half genereated and assume you use half), the backwards meter ides id valid.
Don't get paid an export tariff unless your meter reading is actually less than the previous quarter. However, having gernerated all the electricity, we should be able to store and use it via the electrity company instead of having to pay full price again.
Vive la revolution.
Please enlighten us as to how you can 'store' electricity? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
A meter that runs backwards is 'netting off', what you actually need is a meter that measures import and export on seperate registers. That way you pay the full price for the import and only get paid for what you export. However you probably dont want this as my understanding is that FiT pays you more than you would get if the true level of export was measure.
This.
Anyone with export should be using a import-export meter, with the minimum.
Total Import Kwh.
Total Export Kwh.
R1 I, R1 E.
R2 I, R2 E.
Any other rates ect.

This is how our meters run for Imp/Exp and they work perfect, all data is clear and accurate.Working within the gas and electric industry since 2008'0 -
What you are advocating is "net metering".
Well that is now profitable in S.Spain and Sicily, where there is more sun and expensive diesel generation.
Now the FiT has been cut, the government is more sympathetic towards your position, so new installers of PV may well be inline for an increase in their deemed export rate.
I have recently had my meter changed. I used to have a little postcard sized white job with an LED and a flashing red light (when importing).
I how have a big job that incorporates the Economy 7 clock as well. It too has a small LED window and a flashing red light.
I suggested to the operative who was changing the meter that he could switch the old one round and then I would have an export meter as well as a generation meter.
Somehow the operative was not amused.0 -

This battery system is OK for storing hour to hour.
(I've not bothered to work out how much could be stored overnight for the next day and what is required to avoid the juice being used when Economy 7 is available.)
The real prize comes for those who can create a store of high grade energy from Season to Season.
Domestically the nearest we have is the ground source heat pump - but that is hardly high grade energy:rotfl:0 -

Hmm, appears to be a tin can with 6 batteries in it. How much do they charge for that?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Who makes it ?
How long have you had it ?
What did it cost?
[I'm not just being nosey but one of the "big boys" is poking about with the idea of getting in on the "make it in the day time and use if for free in the evening" market.
That will persuade the network operators to install export meters and pay a realistic rate for the units exported. ]0
