Love the one in Limpsfield Chart, but was a bit concerned about the road on street view (looked council estatey, but I couldn't locate the actual house, so it might not be) Don't know that location at all, but I think I will have to add that to my search area!

it's a lovely location. That bit of the A25 is like a little country road almost. It's also fairly close to Oxted which is about half an hour into London.

Lovely garden here: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-34384190.html No idea what Warlingham's like - plus Bed 3 might be a bit on the small side, and probably not your style of house - but it has some potential, and the garden/views might just swing it!

I've come across that one on my searches before. In all honesty it doesn't really grab me, although I feel bad about saying that because in many ways its a very nice house, lovely garden etc. I think, to me, its got a very commuterville feel to it (which is difficult to get away from in the broad area that I am looking in) where as we want something a bit more individual and a bit more rural.

The house we currently live in is a smaller 3 bed semi version of this place, and we want to get away from that, more into the countryside.

Trouble is, you won't get a character home with a lot of land in a rural location for that budget. Add a couple of hundred grand, and you might! ;)

    How about this?

3 bedroom semi detached in Tandridge. Thats Tandridge the actual village not the district.

Have a look at the street view turn the angle round and see the outlook you'd have.

It's less than a mile from Godstone train station, but thats the long slow stopping service. You'd be best going to Oxted which is about 2 miles for the fast train to East Croydon.

I moved to Caterham Valley last year and love the area. It's probably not what you want, but I love only being a 5-10 minute drive from open countryside.

I would suggest places like Oxted, Tandridge, Lingfield, Godstone, Farleigh and Chelsham near Warlingham, and Woldingham. Though the later is very expensive.

I agree, we're at the *very* bottom of the budget for the kind of house we would like. Hence we accept there will have to be compromises.

The two we've been following are:
    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-30557599.html?premiumA=true

Now sold for £355K. Compromises= motorway and airport noise, plus house itself needs a lot of modernisation. Potential to be a fantastic family home, though

and http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-30503299.html?premiumA=true Sadly showing as sold on estate agents website, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE this house! Compromises would be again possibly airport noise, and the more general location. Ifield itself is quite pleasant and rural, but the nearest town is Crawley, which wouldn't be my first choice tbh. Also slight fear of the listed status. But I think I could quite happily swallow any compromises for that house, as it is the kind of house I dream of, and am suprised has come up within budget tbh.

So it *is* possible within budget, but its quite a tough job finding them! I agree, though, with an extra couple of hundred thou, it would be a lot easier to get what we want. Better go and buy a lottery ticket!

I like that house, but I think it would be two small downstairs for the four of us. Ideally I would like 3 receptions (but accept i may have to settle for 2) but this house only has 1.

What I did really like about that house was that it hasn't been modernised to an inch of its life. I just cannot stand it when people buy period properties, and then rip all the features out and do them up like bland newbuilds.
  • I'm enjoying following this as it's about my area - I'm in Earlswood which is definitely commuterville, but in the heart of your search area. We had to be walking distance of Redhill town centre so we were very restricted but i'm checking out suggested areas for the next move when that restriction will have gone!!

This in South Godstone looks nice.

Bletchingly might be worth considering too.

Currently I'm in Earlswood too! Hello Neighbour! :wave:When we bought this place nearly 10 years ago, we wanted good access to Redhill town centre and the mainline station as we used to have a social life, plus needing to commute to work. Now we have the children, being able to walk into town/the station is less important, and we want our next house to be the "forever" one. We are both into the countryside, garden and character features. I'm actually from Outwood, and that is probably my ideal location, but our budget isn't that big for the area, and accept we are going to have to make compromises.

Have loved living in Earlswood for the last few years, though. The school is fantastic, cannot recommend it highly enough!
