Just had a call, got me worried as he seemed to know a lot but something was telling me not to do anything so ran anti-virus, he kept telling me that this was no good as it was on the computer and in the end said I had to go out hes now calling back tomorrow and I'll tell him where to go. He was very insistant at the time not very nice.

  • Scam, Scam, Scam.

My mother-in-law had this call the other day but as her son is a techie she soon told them where to go. However, about 5 mins later, they rang a neighbour. (They must be phoning an area at a time.)

She followed their instructions, by letting them access her computer, they then said " Look, you can now see there is a problem. We can fix this for you, for only £100." She gave them her card details and they cleared her account!

Yorkshire Bank are now setting messages on their Internet Banking when you login, saying it's a scam too. Still the bad news is it looks like they are doing a push for Rapport ....

this needs to be addressed by the phone companies immediately, they tell us they cant trace the phone call, they are using skype, rubbish, they need some "HACKERS" to backtrack the a-holes and infect their computers on the network, nothing to sinister just a screen saying WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE and then locking the keyboards out so they cant do anything except pressing the reset button on the front, which of course will infect when it reboots, and then call up the police in their country and tell them where they are.

to quickstepqueen, sorry to hear about your neighbour, i too had a phone call yesterday, i had company at the time and slammed the phone down.
wait till they phone me next time.

Why is it the job of the 'phone companies' to prevent people from engaging their credit cards before their brains?
Which phone company? The overseas network on which the call originates, or the receiving network?
I got one of these calls a few days ago-am I going to complain to O2 for 'allowing' them to call me?

  • Far more useful would be a campaign on the TV - Watchdog, You and Yours (R4) etc. Most of us on here know of the problem, but the wider public does not. I am getting sick and tired of them, 3 or 4 this week, and am pretty blunt with them. 'Congratulations' calls which start with a recording I just put straight down, but with these chaps you have to exchange a few words before they say who they are, at which point they get a quick 'Goodbye'.

I just got my first scam phone call, I feel all grown up now.

I told them that this scam was reported online and could I please have their telephone number to report them to the Police, and they gave me a real number and said that before I go to the police to report a scam against my PC could I please allow remote access to my PC so they can fix the scam for me.

Either my English is poor or the Very nice gentleman calling me had poor English but he seemed to think I believed him even though i kept telling him it was HIM trying to scam me.

It gets old fast, believe me.

Almost as bad as scumbag companies like EYG Double Glazing who explicitly ignore the TPS when cold calling.
