    It's a scam.
The Team Viewer software is legitimate, but sadly, unscrupulous people are using it for nefarious purpose.

they want you to use team viewer to allow them remote access to your computer, pertaining to help you through the virus search while someone will be rooting around in your files for any stored card details etc.

I think the only way to beat these good for nothing scammers is to make everybody aware of them!!

I've overheard people talking about downloading fake virus warning scans and then being asked for ££. Their computers and their bank account are at the mercy of these nasty people!!

Don't believe anyone calling about computer problems, unless they are returning a call you've made regarding a computer problem.

Despite having up to date security professionally installed and being super careful about what I click on or open, during this last six months Ive had two key logger viruses I had to pay to get dealt with, and a 'serious threat' trojan which my Microsoft security flagged up and dealt with .
Im aware the 'Microsoft' calls are a scam , and put the phone down on them , but what worries me is that Ive had three of these calls, each about one week after I discoved the above problems I mentioned. What I want to know, is , is it likely that the same scammers that ring me, could somehow have caused the virus I had in the first place ? Is this a known scenario ? It seems such a coincidence that Ive had no calls from these scammers at other times.

Probably a coincidence. I don't think these scammers know much about the people other than name and address, but as you say it all depends on where they get their information. I've used various techniques to see what they actually know, but the people doing the actual calls are generally clueless - but this obviously doesn't rule out the people employing having more information.

Do you live in Sheffield? If so, they scammers just did an intensive 3 weeks here recently to many residents - first time for me at my own place too.

The fact that my Father got one of these calls, and he has never owned a computer, tells me that they are just taking pot luck.
It's possible that there may be more sophisticated outfits operating of course.
The sooner they are closed down the better.

Thanks both . Hopefully youre right , it just felt a bit spooky .Right pain in the proverbial . No not Sheffield Russ , but I expect most big cities will have been targeted if its a case of random calling.
  • I get these calls on a regular basis, strangely when I switch my computer on. Glad I came across this thread, as I did find the calls worrying & I feel reassurred now that these calls are a scam.:T
