Using Tesco mobile sim in O2 phone?

I need to replace my broken mobile. Dialaphone are selling a PAYG Samsung galaxy europa i5500 on O2 for £59.89 which includes £10 credit. Buying through Topcashback I could also get £6.56 cashback on this. My old phone is on Tesco mobile tariff which uses O2 network. As a total technophobe would it just be a case of sticking my old sim in the new phone to retain my old tel no and tariff and maybe I could first use the £10 O2 credit up and then go back to Tesco sim?

Any advice much appreciated.

I am pretty sure that if the phone is locket to O2 it will work fine with Tesco sim.
Also, if your Tesco sim is 'pay monthly', you can try selling unwanted PAYG O2 sim with credit on e-bay.

Thanks. It's a PAYG sim, but would simply transferring the sim transfer the tel no or do you know if I would need to do this at time of purchase as I'm not sure if the tel no is to do with the sim or the phone?

Your tel number and the credit are linked to the sim card. This sim card can be used in any unlocked phone or any phone locked to o2/tesco.

If you want you can easily port your number (not credit) to any other network.

Thanks I'm going to order it now. Will look into selling the O2 sim on e-bay too. All I need to do then is figure out how to work the phone when it arrives :eek:

Tesco SIMs do not work in phones locked to o2. You'll need to get the Samsung unlocked before you can use your Tesco SIM.

(Or at least I'm led to believe it's not guaranteed they will work in o2 phones)

generally the o2 phones i've had in the past will take any sim.. with exception of the iphone
