We are really struggling to get rid of the fleas

After treating the cats and finding it made no impact at all we have shampooed the carpets and the soft furnishings. Washed all the clothes and bedding at really high temps. Retreated the cats and sprayed the whole house including awkward bits and still they are here.
Resorted to using a flea comb twice a day to remove them from the cats until we can retreat them in a couple of weeks. It has been effective but is time consuming.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
I sympathise! I came back from holiday to find a massive flea infestation from my sons cat! I went over to pets at home and one of their assistants recommended the smoke bombs - I couldnt go with that as some members of the household were asthmatic! so he recommended a can called Acclaim. I got rid of the asthmatic members (and the cat) for the night and and sprayed every room! The cat got Frontlined! 24 hours later you could see fleas crawling on the carpets! a few days and the house (and the cat) were flea free! it cost around £12? and with the frontline for the cat - less than £30. I did see the odd crawling flea for a few weeks after that - but it was nothing compared to the massive flea infestation I had to deal with initially!0

Had same problem a year ago. Regularly bought Frontline from vets but still 1 cat had fleas. We used 2 cans of special flea rid spray from vets to spray house (furniture upside down & rugs) as vets said we must have an infestation. Also did flea smoke bombs as well. Still one cat had fleas.
Then I read about a pill called Capstar. Ordered online as our Vets are tied to the makers of Frontline & can't order it. But knew of it.
Incredible success. You give the cat one Capstar & wait 20 odd minutes. Then the fleas just drop out of their fur. The poor cat who still had fleas had at least 60 fleas fall off him. I was devastated for the poor cat having to suffer with that many parasites. (Vet admit cats can become immune to Frontline)
Only fault with Capstar is that they don't kill the eggs. So would have to regularly dose. But it did solve the immediate flea problem for the poor cat.
Now we buy Stronghold from our vets which works on all our cats & their fleas are gone. Our Family Motto ~If all else fails - read the instructions...

There is a cheaper alternative to frontline called Effipro and it is apparently the same stuff according to the vet, you can buy it both from the vet and online.
I have used various different products, I have cats and a dog that is allergic to frontline and flea collars so he has capstar which is very effective.0 -
I'm worried we're going to get an infestation. Lily comes back with fleas on her every time she goes out. We've got Frontline for her and I've been treating the house with spray & hoovering every day yet the wee beasties are still biting me to pieces. I'm annoyed because they don't touch my husband!! Just squashed one now that's jumped out of me from the sofa so I'm gonna have to try harder.
Don't really know what to do about her coming back with them though, am I just gonna have to continue with the Frontline treatment forever? Keep her inside from now on?trying to become a moneysaving student0 -
OP-the frontline plus you link to is not a UK licensed drug, so it is illegal to import-as is the advantage on amazon also-you are not allowed to import veterinary drugs into UK without a license, even for your own pet.
Frontline you can buy without a prescription online or from chemists. Or buy Frontline combo/stronghold/advantage/advocate from your vet (or with a prescription-but it is illegal for these to be supplied to you without a script-so do not buy from somewhere that doesn't require one)
You will also need to treat the house with a product that will kill adult fleas, eggs and larvae-Acclaim is good, or Indorex you can get from Boots. Using a house spray that just kills adults is useless-I think the flea "bombs" etc just do that.
Bob Martins is rubbish-if I had a quid for every animal I see riddled with fleas that the owners have used BM on I would be loaded! (and I would give £1000 not to see every cat I see that the owners have treated with BM dog
Its heartbreaking and SUCH a low survival
I even had one cat that died of permerthrin poisoning after the owners used it on their dog that the cat curls up beside

I've found "Advocate" to be about the best. It not only kills the fleas but a whole host of other things like earmites, heart worm and even treatment for a cat with flea allergy dermatitis.
I found it to be an excellent product, and you can buy it here:
http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/advocate-large-cat-4-8kg_1_17627.html
You can get it for large and small cats, but if you buy it online (a lot cheaper) you will need a prescription from a vet. My vet charged me £24  when I bought it from him.0 -
The main problem with fleas is that they get into places that you would never think possible! For example, we have a bed settee which we very rarely use and hadn't had out for about a year but when i was flea hunting, the laarve had managed to get into the workings of the bed sette and were also hanging from the underneath of it.
I found my last hiding place of the fleas in our house, we had an ironing basket in the dining room, it had a few hangers in the bottom leaving a couple of inches of space and there was a tissue in the bottom. On the off chance I pulled up the hangers and there they were, the tissue was full of laarve, ewwwh!
If you treat with frontine combo, use acclaim everywhere and you still have fleas on your cats, you still have eggs/larvae in your house somewhere. Look in all dark places you would never ever imagine they could get and there they will be! The larvae look like little grains of rice. It's breaking the egg/larvae/flea cycle and it's a very long and arduous process!0 -
Frontline is fantastic, I have three cats who at one point after I come back from a short trip were covered in fleas. Within hours of using Frontline this was gone, and I have used Frontline ever since It even kills eggs in the carpet etc, so if they turn into fleas they just won't go anywhere near your cat. Its really effective and well worth the money. I buy Frontline from Boots now as its cheaper than the vet and Pets at Home - plus you get your points back too :-) Hope this helps x0
