Broadband in New Home

Hi
I've recently moved home and I want to set up broadband. However the phone line has been disconnected and I'm having trouble because many providers will charge a prohibitive connection charge or will only provide a connection if a phone line exists.
What I really need to know is:
Which broadband providers don't require paying line rental or allow some freedom of phone line providers?
Can I get a phone line connected without prohibitive fees or a lengthy contract so I can switch to a broadband provider that charges line rental?
Any advice or links t giudes very much appreciated

you can get Sky for example to install and provide a line for less then the £125 Bt charge, but you will still have the contract period of 12 months
if you have Sky Tv then this may be a cheaper option if you bolt on their broadbandEx forum ambassador

Any ADSL broadband service requires an active line-which requires the payment of line rental. Unless you can get VM cable service, there is no way around this. Almost all line rental contracts are 12m minimum, the Post Office is the only exception that i know of.
Line reconnection is always chargeable if there is no dial tone, charges start from around £80.
Plenty of ISP's offer a one month contract, but the downside is that you have to usually pay a connection/equipment fee.No free lunch, and no free laptop
