1 Step Closer Diary

Hello all and welcome to 2007. I am soooooooo glad 2006 is over, there were some great points - fantastic new job and great people - and some truly horrible parts - hubby of a good friend died suddenly, OH's nan died, hubby out of work since June and we were existing on credit, my depression hit an all time low,dad in hospital for major heart surgery, huge rows and a near seperation.....I could go on but you'd be bored to tears. I have also realised that I made no time for myself whatsoever, partly guilt, mostly lack of control on my own life.

However I have decided that changes are to be made, mostly for my own sanity.

Debt wise is frightening but I will tackle small bits at a time. A bit like losing weight - the oevrall total is scary but break it all down and it feels manageable.

Today - no spending as I'm only going out to walk the dogs (if the rain and wind lets up). Once I've posted on here I shall have a nice bath with some Christmas bubbly stuff I got and will do some cross stitch.

My aims this year are:

Try and be kinder to myself

Eat less

Pay off 60% of my credit cards

Walk dogs more often

Control my temper!

Stop doing things half heartedly and just get on with it

When last of tobacco has gone, stop smoking.

Not sure how I will do but any encouragement will help!

Thank you if you got this far.....

  • Hi 1 step closer. And a Happy New Year to you. Isn't it amazing how the start of a new year can be such a boost.?

I am sure your aims will be acheivable, like you say, break it down in chunks and it seems more maneagable. Take baby steps, take each day as it comes... however you look at it I am sure you can do it. Keep posting on how you get on, and good luck with the No Smoking.!
  • Thanks! I haven't stopped yet - I have 2 packs of tobacco left as I smoke rollies, so only spend £24 a month on smoking. But I need to get the idea in my head and build up to it............

Just had a lovely soak in the bath which made me feel better. Mind you I was watched intently by 3 dogs who wanted to play with the bubbles!

  • Quick question..................I don't spend every day on this site only really visit about 3 times a week, so how do I find my diary again after a few days?

    Thank you

I just tried this out, and it seems to work:

Click on "Search", at the top of the forum display (just below the message "Welcome, <username>"), and type in: 1 Step Closer Diary. It pulls up your diary thread. Watch out for the capitalisation though; the search function takes case into account, so you'll have to type it in exactly like that.

    Hope that helps.

Either that or click on 'Chat' also under the welcome message. At the bottom of that page you will find a list of active users. Your name will be first in that list, click on it and on that page you get the option of finding more posts by yourself or threads started by you.

    Mine are;

Lose at least a stone in weight

Accept our debts and just chip away at them (without letting the thought of them blight each and every day, which has what's been happening this last year)

Eat better - I work in a Health Food shop for goodness sake. I'm at that 'funny' age so I need to take care of myself

Go to Beverley Folk Festival - It’s only down the road! Purchase tickets early so there can be no excuses and getting out of it. Not been to a Folk Festival in 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TOO long! Every year we say we'll go - every year we dont!

Buy new glasses before our Tax Credit exemption card runs out.

Not to take life so seriously

Like you OP, be kinder to myself. Make time for ME. Paint my nails, give myself aromatherapy massages, put make up on etc

  • Those are good aims - I def like the make up one. Doesn't take much time to slap on some lippy and mascara but I never do.........

I am soooooooo looking forward to work tomorrow, back to a proper routine etc. I must be mad!

  • Absolutely! Telly programs back to normal. Each day of the week *feels* like that day (never know where I am with Bank Holidays).

Yep - feels good to be back in the routine ... despite having to go back to work.
