I've had a real problem of a buyer, she wanted an item of mine and said that she kept getting outbid. In the end I listed one just for her as a BIN and she let that lapse. I even sent her a second chance offer for one that she was outbid on, and she let that lapse to.
Her husband got in contact and said his wife was really sorry she had mucked me around but could he now buy the item direct from me as a present if I could get it to them by the 5th. I agreed and waited for the paypal payment which never arrived.
I listed the item again and a few days later get another email saying that they were going to send a cheque. So I pulled the auction and waited. Cheque finally arrived Wednesday ( 5 days later) with a note reminding me that they wanted item a.s.a.p.
I sent the top out on Wednesday and paid the cheque in at the same time and have now got an email saying she has changed her mind so can she please have a full refund. She also made a cryptic comment along the lines of. 'luckily my cheque hasn't cleared my bank yet so I need to here from you before the bank closes today.
I normally offer full refunds, but in this case she mucked me around for weeks and I don't want to refund. I don't have to worry about a neg as it eventually was sold 'off ebay' but I don't know how safe I am with the cheque. I have spoken to my bank and they say the cheque can be pulled for several more days yet even though it shows as cleared in my account, however, they say this is unlikely to happen.
You have my permission to kick me next time i try and be nice to someone.

Omg Soolin what a horrible buyer!! I can see why you kept re-trying to sell them the item though, they sound like they really wanted it. It wouldn't surprise me if this buyer tries to con you out of the item all together. They have messed you around so much already. I would send her an email explaining how you put yourself out to finally finish that sale with her and now she doesnt want the item anymore? Tell her it is NOT on. If she wants a refund she can send the item back in the condition it was in and you can take a % for all your time and postage etc - but you know all this already lol
The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)0 -
I don't think I would have been as nice as you. You must have the patience of a saint.
Don't reply to her and check to see if the cheque clears.0 -
You were definitely too nice this time! I would have blocked them after the lapsed BIN!
I would ignore them now like they have done to you. Respond after the weekend, tell them you were away, and say sorry but no refund. If the cheque clears then you have lost nothing. If it doesn't then it doesn't.
I have a strong feeling that even if you do refund, chances are you will not get the top back anyway. They have already proved themselves as completely unreliable.0 -
Soolin, that sounds like something I would do, i am far too tolerant of people and sometimes when people see that they feel they can take the wotist out of you! (if you promise not to tell anyone, well, you and the other few million people on the internet - I actually took a mobile phone to the post office to be weighed and priced up how much it would be to post it to Nigeria once...) I was pretty green back then but it just shows how easy it is to believe that people are all as genuine as you or I...
They are probably just complete nutters that have got nothing better to do than waste peoples time... Did you say it was a top you sold them? she probably just wanted to wear it once and send it back and had no intention of keeping it!
I'd be a bit wary cos I believe that its not just you that can stop the cheque....
They could be 'regular' people, or they could be scammers who have forced you in to a sale outside ebay by their coniving methods and now are going to pull a fast one on payment... I'm not sure what you can do tho???
I think I would want to try and get rid of her and not have the hassle of fighting this one and would just email her and say it is fine to return the top and once you have the top back in its original condition (postage at their expense) you will post her a cheque for the value of the item, less p&p... and get her out of your hair!!
They just sound like complete nutters who want to waste peoples time... !
Good luck hun

you might actually find that her actions to buy an item, receive the goods and then cancel the cheque constitute the crime of fraud.
make sure the cheque clears, but I would ignore her and keep the cash. If I bought something from a shop then decided I didn't want it anymore it i would have a hard time returning it. (apart from argos etc.)If you can't say something nice - SHUT UP

It seems like lately there has been a surge of idiots on ebay lately. My parents have been mucked around - someone got a refund for an ornament they said was broken - they returned it and there was nothing wrong.
Someone's complained about a video I sent them, saying it arrived damaged - I said that I will be more then happy to give them a full refund if they return it to me. Not heard anything from there.
Do you think it would be possible for us to start a list of people who muck us around. That way we can avoid buying from/selling to them.

sounds like a legal nightmare, that would be what the ebay ratings are for, give neg. feedback. If you can't say something nice - SHUT UP

There are a couple of sites in America like this which hold lists of dodgy sellers and bidders. Can't remember the addresses but you can subscribe to them and put their logos on your auctions.0

Thanks for all your comments. I find this group so helpful for running through ideas and double checking my gut feeling. Thank you all.
I have written back saying that I am unable to refund in this instance but saying I am happy for them to resell the item on ebay.
It was an item of clothing and like someone suggested I believe it was probably bought for a special occasion so now they don't need it anymore.

i think u should have said you would refund no problem, as soon as the item was returned in original condition (as stated above)
just dont refund
tell them cheque is on its way and keep the money for your time and inconvenience
they cant neg you as you say...
and hopefully by the time they realise the refund isnt coming it will be too late to do anything with their cheque
will be a lesson well learnt
meow
if they do try n take u to small claims or anything (which v much doubt as would cos them money upfront) - just put a little rip in the top n say they didnt return it in original condition
