  • Hi,

Now that I've had my new toy for a few days I have some more questions I hope the more experienced Android users might be able to help with.

Downloading Apps - I'd like to download a few. Does it give you the option of where to save them so you know where they are if you want to delete them in the future? Does it automatically put an icon on the screen for you just to click to select it?

Some of the free Apps say they have adverts - are these fairly unobtrusive or would I be better going for the paid versions to avoid the adverts?

Playing Radio - it won't play the radio unless the headphones are in - is there a way to get it to play on loudspeaker please? (Also for playing MP3s) Or will I have to buy separate speakers - if so any recommendations for some cheap and cheerful, not too tinny sounding ones?

MP3s - would like to transfer these from my PC to the phone but haven't a clue where to start. There is a USB cable I can use to plug into the computer and then into the phone.

Social Hub - Is it worth deleting that (to save space etc)? I tried loading an email address into it but it then beeped at me every time an email came in. I'd rather just go to the website to check my emails as and when, than have it constantly beeping.

Tethering - wd like to use phone to access internet on my laptop. Pls does anyone have any guidance on how to set this up securely e.g. with a password, so no-one else in the vicinity can use my signal or, more importantly, see what I'm doing as I plan to do online banking etc., on there. I know nothing is foolproof but just looking to protect myself as much as I can.

I'd be really grateful for any advice on any of these points. Thx in advance.

Saved in download folder but its easier to just re download via something like AppBrain

Try before you buy Adfree from the market used to work wonders with adds bit flakey at present ,

Samsung Kies from samsung.co.uk install gives Kies for updates and music video transfer or just make a music folder on sd card and cut and paste MP3s . USB connection is Wireless and Network in settings USB utilities .,

easier for novice user, simply to use the android market on their pc.

In answer to the question -
" I'd like to download a few. Does it give you the option of where to save them so you know where they are if you want to delete them in the future? "

Don't worry about it - as long as you are using the android market for your apps, if you don't want them, just go into the market, click on "your apps" and uninstall what you don't want - I wouldn't give a second thought to where android is putting them.

Downloading Apps -all will be downloaded to your apps drawer. you can delete them all from manage apps.

Playing Radio - you need the headphones for the arial

MP3s - plug into computer, press enable usb when it pops up, copy to music folder. none of this itunes crap.

Tethering - if you have a decent version of android it should be as simple as going into wifi settings and making a mobile hotspot. you set the password there.
