when to buy car tax.

I have a new car that has no tax at the moment. (kept off the road etc) as it is the end of the month if I go and get a tax disc today would I lose a month of tax compared to if I go and tax it on the 1st of August?

    i have taxed cars 2 days before the end of the month in the past.
    check with the post office or dvla

    Possibly with tax expiring? but I don't think so when there is no tax.

    no, but havnt done this for a few years so maybe the rules have changed.
    with expiring tax, can be taxed anytime when renewal recieved

    if it's SORN'ed then you should be able to tax it now to start in August, the same as taxing it on the 1st August. If it's not SORN'ed then the tax will start the day after it expired.

    When to apply

    If your tax is due to run out at the end of the month, you can renew it from the fifth day of the month.

    If your vehicle has been untaxed, because you’ve just bought it, the tax disc has run out or a SORN is in force, you can tax from the first day of the month in which you apply.
    If you want the tax disc to start on the first day of the next calendar month, you cannot tax your vehicle more than two days in advance.

    If you can find a post office that still opens on a Saturday, otherwise it's Monday.

    all the post offices around here are open on saturdays. thats at least 4 samall ones and a large one in town.
