That's a dodgy comment I'm afraid. The OP's English is poor, but they could for example be Ango Asian, and brought up overseas.
    ...

If you are going to write a long post I believe it is worthwhile to pause for a moment and think how it is structured.

This structure has little to do with good English grammar.

There may be a valuable message in the OP post but I personally found it difficult to follow.

The comment I quoted was a bit out of order in my personal opinion. Yes the original post could have been structured better e.g. paragraphs.

i agree with you it was uncalled for, personal attack on somebody they havent met. Surely this sort of comment has no place on MSE

There are no personal attacks in this thread. Just the usual reparti and reposte which stops a forum about diy becoming totally dull. You can't enjoy some of the other forums on MSE without developing a thicker skin.

I learn a lot from this forum, and appreciate it. I just struggle to understand the OP point in this instance.

I think it was a tad rude, and it made assumptions e.g. that the person was educated in this country. Also the OP was making their first or second post, not a nice welcome. (I've been guilty in the past of lack of manners to a newbie. Hohum.) It is easy to frighten someone away.

Now it might be that the OP was a prelude to a spam. It certainly does read like that, but perhaps not.

Nowhere did I suggest or even consider where the OP had been educated?! Who even cares, why does it matter? English grammar would be part of decent English education in any country, a paragraph is part of English Grammar and £62k is a lot of money.

I've been around long enough to know what spam looks like, or the entries of a real person that plans to become a spambot. I don't make a habit of making posts that aren't part of usual banter on this board nor do I rib newbies when they come in a usual forum style of posting for advice or offering it. Recommendations are not normal for any first post and if it had said the name of the firm, you wouldn't even be having this totally pointless conversation about the OPs origins because the OP wouldn't exist.

As a seasoned renovator, £62,000 is a LOT of money for a simple renovation. If it were a luxury renovation then people don't allow their builders to purchase luxury kitchens and bathrooms for them and the top end places ask that you use their own people anyway. I'm sticking to my original view that there is nothing of value at all to MSE in this entire thread.

Lastly, next time you decide to put words in my mouth, thoughts in my head or put a racist edge on my posts which simply were not there, refrain.

Me too.Having read some of the replies I can't believe some people think £62k is a lot for a refurb though. We spent £50k on 2 new bathrooms, new boiler and new windows.

I presume the 62K budget didn't contain an allowance for paragraphs ;)

Nowhere did I make a comment about racism. I said you were a tad rude and I stand by that.

You said "Presumably you'd have had a decent education that involved English grammar, if you could afford £62k.". Quite how you come to that conclusion is beyond me. The person could have been foreign, as I suggested, and surprise surprise, they turn out to be foreign.

You need to learn some manners. If you think a post is spam, then say "This looks like spam". Don't make a condescending remark.
