    Hi all,

I've been offline due to a broken router! I've just caught up with the thread - hello to all our new comers. last month I spent considerably more than I wanted but apart from £45 (on clothes) it was all necessary .....just unplanned. I have altered the figures in my food envelope so hopefully this month will be better although it has cost us £35 to get back online!

All nsd's so far- I count nsd's as anything which hasn't already been budgetted for.

Rather than count NSDs which aresometimes impractical I prefer to set a total of MSO (minimum spending only) days.

As the name suggests it involves spending the minimum amount necessary each day.

Obviously I need food and it would be foolish not to go into work simply to avoid having to spend money on petrol and my utilities and housing costs are also necessary.

The advantage of MSO days over NSD are that anyone can choose any amount of days during the month to follow this philsophy.

I don't advocate having a complete month of MSO s. I am of the opinion that a little of what you fancy does you good but three or four such days a week most definitely help you to keep your head above water financially.

Howdy Peeps. Just checking in to see how you're all doing.

Spent £11 I hadn't budgeted for at the weekend on gifts and a card for my best friend upon the birth of her child (Who said 9 months notice should be enough for me to budget for it?! lol). So I've had to pull my belt in this week. Managed to get through Sunday, Tuesday and Yesterday without buying anything unnecessary. I still need to work on spending on food but I'm doing a lot better than last month.

Why are there still 23 days until payday? Why?!!

    Have a good one xx

Kate-Pixie I do find that my month lasts longer when I have to consider my finances everytime I open my purse lol. I find I'm usually ok on the unnecessary expense front.....until my teenagers open their mouths, the most dreaded sentance starts with "Mum, can I........"

  • Hi. Love the idea of Minimal Spending. I can very rarely manage a NSD, there's often just a little something. Will try for MSOs.

  • Hi

I have given up with counting NSDs as I have such a poor memory. I am however writing down everything we spend which is the first time I've done this. I'll then try to beat it in Nov. So far we have had £8 of unnecessary spend. I can't believe it is only the 10th though! have put petrol in twice, its pretty scary when you write it down.

    Keep going chaps.

    why not join us nellykim?

Had a cheap weekend only spend was out of my weekend envelope and still have £10 left! Next weekend will more expensive though because we have a family meal in our local pub planned. I'm hoping to manage with minimal spends on food this week - just fruit and veg i think so hopefully I might have some money left from the food budget to go towards next weekends meal out.
