Well I've had a ridiculously expensive weekend. Our dd has been down from Uni for the last two weeks and it always costs us a fortune and this time has been no different. Her train ticket was £25 to get here then we took her back to Wales today (£40 diesel) bought her bulk shop (£40) winter quilt (£10) meal out (£20) halogen oven (£15 - her cooker in their digs is barely working) winter boots (£85 for her not me) repairs to existing boots (£14). My freezer is considerably emptier because she took fish, cheese, mince and steak back with her! Also gave her housekeeping money (£260 - out of a different pot of money) but then her monthy bills sky rocketed to £100 - they're normally £60! The total comes to an unbelievable £610.00!!!! Plus on top of that my pram broke and it cost me £40 to get it repairedso my budget is now somewhat messed up and I'll have to have a really good rethink. I hope the rest of the month settles down :o

Welcome Oregan, Bugslet thank you I'm feeling much better.

Wow. That is a heavy weekend :((
    *No debts* ;)
  • I've been lurking on this thread for some time, and now I find myself having to join you. Not through choice, but having just £9 to see me to the end of the month :o

I have fuel enough to get to work, food in the cupboards and have recently taken up the electronic cigarette, so there is nothing I "need" to buy really. I find my biggest weakness is popping into Morrisons at lunch to get a few bits to supplement my packed lunch. Over time this really adds up.

So I'm sure I can make it through the rest of September with my £9 (mostly) in tact. And if I can keep that behaviour up, October will feel a lot nicer.

How has everyone else been doing of late? xx

I have started a competition at work in our team of 7 (teachers) and we have a chart on the wall. Each day we go without spending we get a sticker.

Quite funny seeing a 29 year old IT lecturer get excited about putting a "Good Boy" sticker on the chart against his name. He has done 9 no spend days in a row:eek:
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

If I have spent something I could have/ should have not spent, I've made the amounts red on my budget spreadsheet. £18.03 so far for Sept. Not too bad considering it's usually £80-odd. It means that if something crops up that necessitates money I have it to hand without worrying.

Kate_pixie that is exactly the same as me. I take sandwiches into work, just like we are meant to, and then I go to Boots to buy a bottle of coke. Or some chocolate. Or crisps. All of which I could and should live without!!
I have £30 in the bank to stretch out for 2 weeks :(

  • Wow sounds like everyone's having a good week! My week has been really hectic and we've had our three pieces of bad luck this week - I'm not superstitous (sp?) but they do seem to come in threes lol, as such I've taken my eye off the ball really but I'm still working from my envelopes so I am still on track I just don't feel organised. Everything is paid at the bank and there's money building up in my salary account although dh is behind atm, he's struggling to get clients to pay on time.

Kate_pixie welcome on board and LouiseJ what a fab idea - I can just imagine it :)

I'm hoping for a frugal weekend but omg it's just one thing after another we're going to have to get a price for a new bathroom window - we opened it yesterday and the bottom half of the wood frame literally fell off!!!! We've jammed it shut and it will go in the October budget. I'm planning on going to a (fairly) local Sunday market this weekend - it's about 15 mins away and cost £3 per car to get in but the fruit and veg is so unbelievably cheap .....10 Leeks for a pound, 10 Peaches a pound, three lettuce - £1, 3 cucumbers - £1 etc. I usually give some to my retired neighbour because it's too much for us to get through although I am considering roasting some and freezing it.

Here's to a good NSD day for us all
  • Woo hoo! I successfully made it through the weekend without spending a bean!

    How was everyone else's weekend?
