PAYG advice

Hi all

Need some advice on PAYG sims. Not in the UK for a lot of the time but need a UK sim on PAYG but I dont want to loose any credit I top it up with for 'non use'. I refuse to pay for TMobile to 're-activate' my SIM because it didnt get used for a while so need to buy a new PAYG sim.
Not bothered about internet and all that stuff, just need a SIM that I can make and recieve calls and texts on without loosing any credit for 'non use'.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If your t-mobile SIM was deactivated, you'll probably find the same situation could apply with any SIM you get - typically after 180 days of no chargeable usage they tend to deactivate. Make a call or text every few months to avoid this.

Various suppliers available. https://www.icardmobile.co.uk pretty reasonable at 2p/min landlines, 6p/min mobiles, pretty cheap international and 5p/texts.

I don't use my mobile much, i'm on Tesco Payg and have never had problems losing credit.

    Tesco PAYG condition 5.4

Virgin mobile PAYG condition 8.2 part h

    Giff Gaff condition 11.1

As far as I know, all PAYG operators do have a disconnection clause in their terms and conditions - links to Tesco Mobile, Giffgaff and Virgin mobile posted above as they are the three services mentioned so far. Using any of these will not prevent the problem you have from happening again.

Whether all operators choose to currently impose these conditions is another matter - but whether they currently do or not now, they may very well choose to do so in 180 days time, and given that it is in the terms and conditions that you agree to, there's nothing you'd be able to do about it.

Make a chargeable call or text within the 180 days to keep your SIM active- whoever you are with.

Within 90 days if your with Virgin as they have reduced the number of days.

"Keep talking! : You need to use our Services at least once within any 90 day period either by making a chargeable call or sending a text message. If you dont we may suspend your access to the Services and cancel this Agreement. If we cancel this Agreement, you may lose your phone number and any unused Top Up credit on your account (see Clause 10.3). We dont really want to lose you as a customer so please ensure you keep talking or texting!"
  • Ive tried to reply to this thread 3 times now but for some reason it didnt work. Will try again.

We decided to go with giffgaff. Got the sim brought over by a friend, went to activate it and in order to activate it you have to buy a top up but it said you could use your debit card to do this - tried and then found out I can only use UK cards - great :(

    What a waste of time.

  • Forget that comment above. Im coming to UK later tonight and I have successfully activated and topped up from abroad using my debit card for my account here in Cyprus simply by visiting giffgaff.com using a very popular program that people use to watch BBC iplayer abroad so you can use any debit card but you must 'be in the UK' internet wise :)

Thanks for all the advice and I apologise for my above comment - was miffed at the time but found a way to do it :) Merry Christmas everyone!
