I was very pleased, they were polite and friendly and if all their branches are like our local one, then I'd not hesitate to recommend them.

If only they were! Sadly my experience of Kwik Fit ain't been this good.

To reply to OP, I've had my Peugeot 107 from new and it's been serviced by the dealership - up until now. Last service, (bearing in mind I only do very low mileage) was a whopping £300.....
With my car just out of it's warranty and my first MOT and annual service due this month, I decided to go to our local KwikFit as husband had recently had excellent service from them. Total bill was £220, which included refilling my tyres with nitrogen (Ok, I said yes, no idea why nitrogen is better than air?!) they re-gassed the aircon, full service and MOT. I asked if the car could be back mid afternoon and they rang me at 1.30 to say I could pick it up. I was very pleased, they were polite and friendly and if all their branches are like our local one, then I'd not hesitate to recommend them.
Some KFs are good but most unfortunately are not. And no, Nitrogen is no better than air! The air is 78% nitrogen already anyway!

OP what area are you in?

Surely if you put 100% nitrogen in your tyres then every time you check your pressures you'll have to go back to Kwik Fit. Wise it won't be 100% nitrogen any more.

The AA reckon there isn't much benefit from nitrogen inflation of car tyres. I wouldn't pay extra for it, but I'd be happy for it to be done at no extra cost when fitting a tyre.

Ford RapidFit £129 MOT and Value Service. Would also say to everyone to check the obvious stuff yourself beforehand, make sure all your lights are working properly, wiper blades aren't worn or split and there's plenty of tread all across the tyres,if they need doing then get 'em done before you put it in for the MOT because it WILL fail if you don't.

No need to regas aircon just because it is 4 years old either. If it is still cold don't touch it.

We use a local independent for servicing - half the cost of a main dealer.

The only benefit of maintaining a dealer service record is the manufacturer may consider a contribution to major repairs outside of warranty, especially if you have a more expensive motor. With Mercedes you also get their roadside assistance renewed for another year.

Is there anyone here who has had a brand new car serviced independently and then made a successful substantial warranty claim?

Yes, but it was in 2007 and it wasn't a substantial claim.

I bought a 55reg Corsa brand new from a small non-chain dealer in Sep 05 and it was on the two yearly service schedule. The dealer lost the franchise in Dec 06 due to Vauxhall having 3 dealers within a 15 mile radius. I had the service done in Aug 07 at the garage I bought it from.

In Oct 07 while on holiday the management light came on and I went to a dealer who diagnosed a fault with the rear O2 sensor - the diagnosis was free but they didn't hold stock so reset the light. The light came on again a 100 miles later so I visited a second dealer, the same fault was diagnosed and again no charge was made but no stock was held.

When I got home I went to the closest dealer and went through things with them. They were aware of the situation with the supplying dealer and had a good working relationship with them. I provided a copy of the service book and invoice and the work was carried out with no problems and no costs to me at all.

As above, it wasn't a substantial item, but I did get workshop time at two other dealers as well as the work itself done. I didn't provide any paperwork to either of the dealers where the fault wasn't fixed - but some dealers will charge for diagnosis alone.

Totally agree, if it was free and someone would lend me an M3 to go to the Nurburgring again, then I would consider it.
No way would I consider it for an every day road car - a modern day equivalent of snake oil.

They say the air leaks out but nitrogen doesnt because it has bigger molecules.

If thats the case after inflating your tyres half a dozen times you must have 99.9% nitrogen anyway?

The oxygen leaks out leaving the nitrogen behind?

Nitrogen (N2) is used in aircraft tyres by law as it is an inert gas (fire retardant.) Can't imagine why you would need it in a car tyre, apart from the fact they want to rip you off.
