M&S card criteria? Stricter than others?

Hiya
I just applied for an M&S 0% card. Hubby and I have decent salaries, a very large mortgage (but have never missed payments) and no other debts.
M&S turned me down as I didn't meet their credit score requirement.
Are they particularly strict, if so can anyone suggest an easier 0% card to get please?
I am going to check our credit histories now too in case something is amiss.
Cheers
Alex

If you apply for the Creation mastercard via Moneysupermarket.com you get 13 months 0% on purhcases - and their scoring is comparatively lax.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

My wife applied for M&S recently and they turned her down. I cannot say I'm complaining as it would me probably me paying it off haha
She has a decent salary but she's not on the electoral roll. She has never had any credit cards either. Her only financial commitments are a car loan (ending this year) and our mortgage and ovedraft in her account. She never missed any payment (thanks to the fact all payments go from our joint account and I'm the person keeping eye on the transactions ). I said to her that it was not a good idea to apply for M&S credit card as a first card, but she didn't listen.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
Izools, thanks, I am now a happy Creation customer with ten grand to spend, woohoo!0 -

I've corrected your post!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Nah mine was right lol!
Actually it's quite boring, we are spending it on (borrowing it for!) the last few bits to do up the house - carpets, wardrobes, etc. We have some savings in ISAs but I am hoping we can just manage to pay back the card from income, and keep the ISAs.
No clothes, jewellery, new car and holiday spree for me! Boo!0 -

Further on from this, I wouldn't feel bad.
My mother applied for an M&S card last month and was insta-declined.
She then applied for Saga Platinum VISA and MBNA Platinum VISA (18 month 0%) and was approved for both with £7,000 between them.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

About 7 grand or so, at least until November but ideally for a year.
What other options were you thinking of?
I have tried the bank of mum and dad already (and got approved!) but I'd rather not borrow from them unless I have to.
Cheers

I think M&S must have strict requirements!0 -

those cards are for BT/money transfer rather than purchase though.
However, I do think MBNA have slightly lax rules compare to M&S0
