ETA - Paddy see! What the ... is drupal???
As DS1 would say, "you wouldn't understand mum". So just accept it's techie talk, one of the 'tools' you (or someone who understands this jargon) could use for setting up the website of your dreams!
Oh, and to prove DS1 wrong, I know it's used in CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems, which is what you need. Probably. Maybe.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
love the name Steve!!! Like pitkin I am rap /hate thinking of names! Although should we (we being you me sue tex paddy and pitkin seeing as we are all involved in the "creative process" lol) try and go for more erm "sleep with me" but without the smut thing, as in , you can park anywhere, but we would be advertising overnight stays, not just somewhere to park, but I truly do love the park at my pub name! As I said I know beggar all about this stuff, so take what i say with less than a pinch of salt, hence I want someone else to do this!
I also never intended to invest in anything! I wanted to register on one! But, if the costs are low, and eventually it could pay for itself then I might! However, my concerns would be how you get it out there, how you let people know, get them to tell their local landlord, mail everyone on your address list, facebook it, no idea how to start something like this - i buy pubs so i can get free beer, I dont do interwebs and stuff!

ETA (AGAIN!)
Ok you need to all stop posting so I can 1) go sleep but 2) more importantly keep up!
Sue, I did once use joomla under instructions, for a guild website, I can also say the words PP something and another something bblb or similar, which i used to nod at
Im loving the concept of late night board meetings - can we reconveen tomorrow around 10pm for a team update pleaseI will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -

I have several ideas on how to the motorhome community on board, not so much the pubs other than directly!!
Sleep with me, sounds more like a dogging convention than a camping experience lol
As for making money it would be a gamble, I can't see you making money until it has a track record which could be two years, even then if the uptake is low it may never make money. That being said several web address and a years hosting isn't going to be major. The costs of getting the site built, advertising it (other than free which could easily be most of it) and possibly a few other expenses would be the main costs.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
If we do an even split then it could cost literally £10 each each year.
I think anything with sleep & pub in is going to be difficult to put in a domain name as it sounds like you're offering B & B IN the pub rather than the car park. And then if you start with camping then you're going to exclude the motorhomes/caravans although ukcampsites does cover all types.
Advertising, Facebook, Twitter, free ads, I have a forum at afcforum.co.uk which I could advertise it on, as well as my own website.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
Whilst I think its a viable option we do have to look at the competition that is already there, what could we offer that they don't and how can we do it better.
Here is a couple of links I have found

In my defence, I did say I was crap with names and yes it does sound like something dodgey! But we need a name that says what it is on the tin, much as I think park at my pub owns, does it tell you that you can stay overnight? however - abbreviated it spells pamp = pamp - similar to camp and almost pamper so you stay in your own lap of luxury and pamp not camp... LOVE IT! High five to the team!
And, tho skills are expensive, between you me and steve alone, we have knowledge and experience in all required fields, which doesnt cost us pounds and pence, simply our time, and sue brings us back into reality
Now I really do need to go sleep!
ETA ARRRRRRRRRRRGH! YOU BOTH POSTED WHEN I WAS TYPING!!!!!!
the motor home parking one and the stop over one were the ones i found. The parking one is the most crap basic, unprofessional to look at or use site, and is the one i was referring to when replying to sue, as it mostly covers public carparks and looks totally CRAP imo! the 2nd link was the one i referred to that had been dissed on forums for being £30 a year to join for no benefits (the posters said that saying you can save by spending £30 to join for a year rather than spend it on a camp site type pitch failed as they said there wasnt really the database of places that made it worth joining and they would rather work out a route and call places themselves) and was also, it seems, started back in 2007/8 and seems to not have progressed at all in fairness. We need to learn from how crap they are, and use a clickable map perhaps as our frontpage as in "Click where you want to "pamp" and once you click, it brings up a list in that area of places you can pamp! simples! (in my head it is that simple, in reality, I know its alot of work!)
We would get pubs to register by showing them how they can benefit from 5mins time spent filling a registration and no ongoing maintenance, and then somehow get users to check it out, and use the info with an easy to use, informative yet simple site, with perhaps a forum to "review" sites added. When we are bigger than trip advisor, we contact major players in the camping and caravanning world of magazines and suppliers, and give them a good price to advertise... I also like the idea of listing big events and linking them to places to "pamp"and whilst I realise time is tight for all of us, it is all I can commit if someone shows me what to do! ( (I will ofc chip in on costs too!)
Right now I really do need to go read to chill out, head is spinning, and i didnt even have too much brandy! All I wanted to do was get my carpark out there and potentially get a couple of bums on seats to boost trade, and now look!
Might raise a wee one to settle down and toast the conception, over the net of ...park at my pub... or PAMP.co.uk(subject to change following board meeting ofc) Really could go global so should we get pamp.com or whatever.com seeing as we are not the only place that has pubs or restaurants with carparks. I am waffling more, but, the potential is really large here... think how many private carparks, and ok, my thought was initially to offer space in return for a meal or a few beers, we could also add a list of great spots such as nature reserves or charities that allow you to park for a small say £5 donation to the charity after a certain time at night... ok, I really am off now!
I will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0
