How important is it for the kids to have their own bathroom?

There are some very rude people in this thread, I detect a certain level of bathroom envy!0

As a child I not only had to share a bathroom with my siblings, but also my bathwater (not at the same time though - one would go in after the other and the last one would get the cold scummy water)!!!!! I really don't understand this fascination for an en-suite and wouldn't want one myself. There's no way I'd want DH using an en-suite and having his smells follow him back into the bedroom
:eek::eek::eek:
I grew up with 3 siblings - we also not only had to share one small bathroom with each other and our parents but also the bathwater!! It was disgusting by the time everyone had had their baths! We also had visitors/lodgers who would also use our family bathroom - but for some reason they got to have their own bathwater :rotfl:
These days I love nothing better than a long hot bath in clean water that nobody else has used or will be using!
I think you should make your bathrooms into family bathrooms that the whole family use - although I would have given my eye teeth for an ensuite as a teenager I think the way things were has taught me to really appreciate what I have now (and what I have worked hard for) and to learn about sharing.0 -

No, I think people are just startled by the weird sense of entitlement you have let your children develop. Unless the bedroom you and your partner share is in other ways superior (size, orientation, etc) you and your partner should be in the master bedroom and the en suite should be for your use. The other two bathrooms should be the family bathrooms to be used by everybody.
Is the main problem that you don't want any of your children to use the nicest bathroom?0 -

some of it may be down to me, I was brought up in a one bathroom house and hated going in after my brothers , and TBH since then, I have always said , thats its very nice to have your own.
I realise so many are not as fortunate to choose , but its nice to have your own bathroom, and not have other people 'going' in there0 -
