    thanx everyone,
he has done TIG,MIG,MMA,OXY-Acetylene welding and cutting and also plasma cutting, which he has all done at a placement in school, he has done it all (which i suppose he would have to) to get his NVQ 2.. he thinks his next step would be a coded welder course(which the college recomended to him) but TBH i havent a clue.

i'm sorry i dont know how people get coded because i am not a welder myself. i do have experience of welding and have worked with welders. i have never had conversations with them about whether they were coded or how they got coded. i imagine there are training centres and colleges that offer courses. as far as i know part time courses at college are free for people who arent in employment. if he found employment and his employer needs their welders to be coded then they might pay for him to get coded.
