I have booked a stand for an event on Friday but it has been poorly advertised and cost me a lot of money but they are saying they cant fill my stand at short notice so cant have a refund, but I never signed anyting mentioning cancellation rules....where do i stand on getting a refund??? I cant afford the petrol and cost of the stand if Im not going to cover my costs.
I emailed then first thing Monday and again Tuesday and got a reply today.
I have also been emailing for past two weeks to ask for confirmation of where my stand will be and what are the instructions for the event but had no reply to that so not confident It is well organised.

Are you a business?
If so you need to check the terms of the agreement.
If there is no mention that you have cancellaiton rights then you will prob be liable for the full cost.
Are they failing to provide what they offered? did they say they woudl advertise it a certain amount?0 -
Hi
Yes I am a business. They just said it was well advertised. But I have struggled to find mention of the Friday, just that the event runs Sat/Sun.
But I am also having car troubles and would need to find an alternative way to get there, but due to the lack of responce to my previous questions I thought it would be best to try and cancel because at the moment I dont even know where my stand is supposed to be, set up times etc.
The form i signed and returned with payment just confirms costs and stand sizes and doesnt mention cancellation policy, I would be happy with a part refund if nothing else, but there are no cancelation details on the form or their website.
Its all very confusing as I have never had to cancel a stand before, but know when I have organised events I always make it clear about cancellations.0 -
well no if the event is worth going to I will get someone else to take me, but its the lack of contact and responce to my enquiries that is making me question how well organised it will be and is it worth making the extra effort.....surely with 2 days to go I should have been told set up times etc. and noone locally knows it is on the Friday so not good0

Surely that's more speculation, and you can't prove that until you actually go?
I'd say just go along, and if it's a big let down, then ask them for a refund.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Agree with pinkshoes.
If you haven't got anything that says you are entitled to a refund then I think you're going to have a job to get one.
Turn up. If there's hardly anyone there then you've got grounds to complain.0 -
I trade at events and as far as you know they may well just advertise it local to the event, also if their are specific groups (horses, bands etc0 they usually bring crowds as they advertise within their groups.
lets say a dance group of kids is booked, each kid has 2 parents and usualy brothers/sisters, which 9/10 will also travel with them along with other family members.
it is amazing how a small event that advertises locally gets the crowds. i did a show 3 weeks ago that i had never heard of before but i had a spare sunday and a trader at another fair mentioned this show, so i contacted them and was accepted to trade. this show was 135 yrs old and on the day it attracted 15,000 people i would estimate, so i have booked in to the show again next year.
so just because its not advertised where you live does not mean it wont get the crowds.
I also have fairs that i pay and know they have received the cheque when it appears off my bank account, but never have contact from them after i send the cheque.
most events are run by committees and you wont get contact until the committee meets regarding setup times, depends on event open to public. get their early to set up stand their will be someone at event to tell you where to set up your stand0
