Warning - Phone calls claiming your computer has downloaded malicious software

I got one of these a month or so ago. I started off on the phone, I was like 'what computer we have loads in the house', then my brother took over. Kept saying 'you know I'm only wasting your time right?' the guy asked him if he wanted to speak to his supervisor so did and he just said 'yeah I'm just wasting the other guys time to stop him from scamming people' by the sounds of it they were in disbelief until my brother said 'bored now' and the supervisor had a go at him for wasting time.
I say if you've got time to spare stay on the line, will mean they waste money on phone calls and also stops more phone calls being made to people who might actually fall for these! (very few will though, but some are bound to otherwise they would have moved on to a different scam)0 -
I love getting these calls when DH is home as he is a Computer Service Engineer and baffles them with technical jargon until they are almost begging to put the phone down on him.
One quick way to deal with them is to say "Oh that's strange, I have an Apple Mac, so how does it have a Windows virus?"
I tend to ask them which computer they mean, as we have 5 in the house. That or I lose my temper and tell them what I think of them (Only when my insomnia is bad and I haven't slept for 5 days though).0 -
It's the company names that get me, I think the last to call me was called something like "Computering Technicals Advice" I always thought Fonejacker was exaggerating with "Internet Service Providings"Bought, not Brought0
