Sorry but I've tried to find the answer on here and the airline website and so far no luck
I've just realised my sons flight has been redirected to an airport 2/300 miles away from where he should be the plane has now landed in Madrid , what happens now do the airline arrange transport to the original destination if the plane is now out of action? or do they just have to wait for another plane to take them onwards? Just a mothers worrying about her big grown up son lol...
thanks for any info..

We were diverted on a flight from Mauritius when Heathrow was closed. The airline put us up in a hotel in Nice for the night and we continued our journey the next day.0

Your son has a contract with the airline to get to his final destination. If it's overseas, he'll be rerouted on the next available flight. He should be aware of his rights under EU legislation (discussed elsewhere on MSE) for extended delays. If it's in the same country, the airline can arrange alternative transort (bus or sometimes train) as happened extensively during the ash cloud crisis.0

Thanks guys, it was an engine fault , they sat on the ground for a couple of hours while it was fixed and then continued to original destination.... an unscheduled pit-stop as my son put it....... he was only 4 hours late back to work , I just wanted reassurance that they were responsible for getting him there..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
