The Cooperative bank etc are using the environment as means to con customers into thinking they should use them if they care about the environment. How much does the bank donate to projects?, Do they use energy efficient lightbulbs in all premises?, Do they recycle all the paper do the use?, Are all wooden desks from sustainable forests? etc etc. I am not criticising you for trying to help the environment but you would save money by using other banks for car insurance etc because it is more expensive. You are far better recycling, using enery efficient appliances, driving a car with lower fuel emissions etc etc.
They claim to have turned business away which wasn't in tune with their principles. (I remember when they told a anti-gay Christian organisation to take their business elsewhere)
They claim to recycle plasic cups and paper
I do know that they have stuck solar panels on their HQ in Manchester as it was in the Manchester Evening News.
I have a very low emission car (my two feet, its only 3 miles walk to work)
Anyway back to the lottery account. Coutts charge an amount for just running the account and haven't seen anywhere their savings rates.Debt of £6300 cleared in 5 years, now ZERO0 -

HSBC claim to be the only carbon neutral 'big bank'. They have solar panels on some of their building, they have had wind turbines on their Birmingham office block (Five Ways), They have a massive recycling inititive, yet listening to reports, they are classed as the anti-christ!0 -

I'd question the real motive behind solar panels I would think it would be to reduce the price of untilities to the company, rather than to save the earth. Why do you not ride a bus or a bike to work?
Back to the lottery winners, I think they would be more concerned about what they were going to use the money for, than where to put it.0 -
I always wonder, if those bank that refuse to offer me a current account over the years with a debit card..... would give me on if I won the lottery with 6 numbers.... I know what I'd tell them to do!0

I used to work for camelot many years ago and they have a dedicated team who are there to help you regardless of how big your win is. If you are a jackpot winner there is also a helpline you can contact for financial advice 24 hours a day.0

Posters on this thread often allude to knowing staff in their bank branch - as an 18 year-old student I fear I might never know such joy!
I do most of my banking online, and whenever I've visited a branch of Nationwide, Halifax, NatWest or HSBC I've always felt that any "customer service" is very impersonal...although we are talking about large branches in big towns and cities. Looks like I might just have to move to the countryside in order to build a working relationship with my friendly local bank cashier!
On a more serious note, I would love to know that if I got into a financial pickle then someone in a position of financial authority might be able to help me out when I most need it. I remember my Dad telling me that he used to know all the counter staff at our local branch of Alliance & Leicester (before it de-mutualised) when I was a kid, and if he needed to withdraw a few £100 more than was actually allowed he could do it. Nowadays it's a case of "Computer says no..."0 -
How and where abouts would you go to set up a syndicate bank account?0

I remember when I had a large cheque to pay into my account, it was a nice round 5 figure sum... i was at uni at the time, and had a student account with lloyds tsb. i think i only had about £30 in my account at this point.
so i took the cheque down to the branch and paid it in... the cashier guy thought it was funny... but the good thing was the cheque was drawn (same sort-code) as the branch i was paying it in at... so they cleared the cheque in about 12 hours and it was available for withdrawl the following morning0 -
Sad, I know, but I often dream of taking my Lotto jackpot cheque (perhaps a double rollover Superdraw - well, it is MY dream!) into my bank and going up to the counter to ask for a different pay-in slip as the Amount box on their normal ones aren't wide enough!!The early bird catches the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.0

I think my Dh is worse..
He dreams of taking the cash in to a car showroom and saying - 'I want that one'....
Now.....
He can dream - we don't even do the lottery!!!"A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength. Do not be pursuaded into buying what you do not need or cannot afford." Quaker Faith & Practice 1.02.410
