Phone not holding charge

Ok, don't laugh...I have a Sony Ericsson K300i which I've had for ages and I'm happy with...I only use it for mainly texting and photos.

When I charged it overnight, the phone status said 100% charged, then immediately went to 12% charged. It only shows fully charged when the charger's plugged in and it's actually charging, so obviously I can't take it out anywhere!

Is this anything that can be fixed or will I have to get a new phone? My grandsons have iphones that can't get a signal indoors half the time and I've never had a problem with this phone.

Due to the age of your handset, you simply need a new battery e.g. here as they don't last forever!

Agreed, sounds like time for a new battery if you want to keep the phone. Depending whether or not you are on contract it might be worth checknig whether you are due an upgrade, in which case a new phone might also be an option.
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!

Thanks espresso and unsure. Can I just take the phone to a phone repair shop and buy one?

You would be far better ordering a replacement battery on-line as most phone shops would charge you a lot more. It's very easy to fit, just remove the back of the handset, take out the old battery, insert the new one, replace the back and charge.

As others have said it sounds as though your battery is coming to the end of it's life. As the battery goes through a full or partial cycle an irreversible chemical reaction is occuring, when enough cycles have gone by (much like heart beats) the performance deteriorates until it can no longer provide any voltage worth mentioning.

Yes, phone batteries are cheaper online BUT, be sure that you trust the seller as the market place is flooded with fakes which pose potential risks from overheating which can damage your phone up to exploding, which can damage your life :D

They are all right, new battery is needed. If you are thinking of buying a new phone, try to consider if the price of the new Phone and the new battery. For I am sure that there is no need for repair. if you want to make sure, you may also check it for any defect and also ask of the service fee and compare to the price of the new phone. If the price of the new phone is some what the same with the expenses you will incur if you will repair the old unit, then better buy a new one.
