Do you play the lottery?

I've never bought a ticket and never would. I once heard the lottery described as "a tax on stupidity" and I can't help thinking of that when I see people queuing up to put £10 on the lottery.
I wouldn't be impressed if I got a lottery ticket in a birthday card. I'd rather have a pound coin!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
I don't buy tickets myself any more though I do pay £1 per week into the syndicate at work as I couldn't bear to be the only one who didn't share the jackpot if they won. We get our winnings back at the end of the year - it will pay for Jan and Feb's stakes in 2007. I know the chances of winning are extremely low but not as low as not taking part at all!0

lottery is a mugs game, especially if you're finding things tight - only you can get yourself out of whatever you're in.....0

I'm in the syndicate at work for £1 a week. I think of it as my insurance against being left on my own if they win and everyone else is celebrating. I very rarely buy a ticket outside of that as the odds are too high for me!Debt at highest May 2006: £27,472.24

I live in an area that is not one of the nicer areas perhaps (I dont mind it though) and its always seems to be the poorer people who are spending £10-£15 in one go on scratchcards0

You never know! You gotta be in it to win it!
Won two x £10 this year so down £32 throughout the year.
My Grandad won 5 numbers a few years back which was nice.0 -

Same here - I would be so gutted if all the other staff could afford to leave and I was stuck there by myself!0 -
I used to play every now and again (last minute rush to get a ticket just in case "my" set numbers came up.) One of my New Year resolutions for 2007 is not to play it at all-I have a £100 tin from Woolies where you can mark off each time you put a £1 in so I'm going to use that and save the money instead.Proud to be Dealing with my Debts:D

See I have an issue with that too. It appeals to the people who can least afford it and the odds are just too high to be in with a realistic chance. Although I wish them the best of luck as I'd love to see someone who really needs the money get the jackpot

We have a syndicate at work - we pay £1 a week each but we only buy one line for each draw that way we have enough money at the end of each year to go out for a meal and a drink. We won £30 this year.Aug 2006 £18,415.49
Jan 2008 £15,052.31
