Poorly Cat

My 1 year old cat has been suffering with diarrhea since last Tuesday, I took him to the vets on Saturday who checked his temperature, which was fine, and noticed he had slightly sore gums, so she did a blood test for leukaemia etc and that came back fine. She gave me so easily digestible food for him which seems to have done the trick, his poos are more solid now.

But the problem is, he keeps licking himself down there and it looks really sore, and after he has done a poo it looks almost as if he has pro-lapsed. He also keeps leaving little poos around the house which he has never done before, suggesting he can't help it coming out!

He just doesn't seem himself and I'm worried.

Also we have just got two new kittens who I am keeping away from him for the time being in case they catch anything, but I feel bad because I can't spent as much time with them as I want because I'm so concerned about older kitty :(

Any advice??

My only suggestion would be to go back to your vet and explain this to them.
Hope you get it sorted out and your cat is better soon x

You need to take the cat back to the vet and explain what's going on, it sounds like he is really struggling the poor thing :(

thanks guys, think I'll book him in for Thursday. Hes curled up asleep on my lap now.

Do you think I should continue to keep him away from the kittens?

So I took Sebastian to the vets this morning. They gave him a steroid shot for his sore bottom, a wormer and 5 days of antibiotics. I really hope he gets better soon, its just awful when you know they are in pain but cant tell you :( So far spent about £120 on vets bills this week alone! Any idea if I would be able to claim this back on his insurance?

Poor boy :( Hopefully the treatment will have him feeling better soon!

Your insurance should cover this condition as long as he hasn't suffered with anything similar before. You will probably have to pay an excess but every little they pay helps! They may not cover the worming treatment, but I imagine this wasn't the expensive part!

Sebastian has been shut away in a spare bedroom since yesterdays vet appointment. I feel so mean because hes meowing and wants to come out! It seems like his diarrhea is getting worse! Its become much more liquidy and I've had to lay down newspaper because its going everywhere! I don't know what to do!

Personally I would ring the vet explaining the situation and ask their advice as its distressing for you and your poorly boy. It may be a reaction to the shot or tablets, but they should know for the best.

Make sure there's water available so he doesn't get too dehydrated, but not milk. Feed him something bland like chicken or fish till his tummy settles. If it doesn't improve by tomorrow I'm afraid it may mean another trip to the vets.

And I'm sure you're already giving him plenty of love and cuddles.

Thanks for your advice. He has been given prescription science plan food which is specially for diarrhea. Just got home from work and he seems to have perked up a bit. There was a soft stool in the litter tray, but at least it was in the litter tray, before it has just been everywhere! (I'm going to need to re-carpet the spare bedroom!) His sore bottom seems slightly better :) and we just had a big cuddle with lots of purrs!

I really hope he gets better soon! Stressful enough with two kittens running around the house!

His poos are becoming more solid!!! He is still getting a sore bottom after pooing, with a bit of blood on his botty, (sorry if tmi!) but its bright red blood which suggests its fresh and not internal. Vet mentioned it could be colitis, which after reading up on, i think it is. Any one have any experience with feline colitis?
