Wedding Rings - When to buy?

I wish I'd been as brave as some of you when it comes to sizing - my engagement ring is probably one size smaller than I would like, but I suppose I might lose weight some day as I am about 2 stone heavier than my ideal just now.. HAHAHA aye right

I hadn't even considered the cost of the gold affecting rings - you've prompted me to rethink when we go ring shopping. On the plus side, OH kept his ring from his first marriage and we still haven't sold that, so we might make a few more quid there :rotfl:0 -
I really liked a ring and just never got around to buying it. When I eventually did get time to go into the shop (1 month later) the price had gone up by nearly £100. Ended up buying a more expensive one custom made anyway..whoops!
Like most others, if you know you aren't going to change shape before the wedding get them as early as you can. Gold is definitely increasing at the moment.0 -

Hi Mrs Moore,
Yes please that would be great. You can pm me if you can't post the details.
Thanks everyone

The answer I would give is ASAP!
H2B and I went to Hatton Garden today, and went round the shops. Went into the 'wedding ring shop' at approx 11.30. Talked to the lady who was quite helpful, explained the difference in shapes etc. We tried on some rings, decided that I would get 2mm plain band, and H2B (if he wants one) would get 5mm plain band. Went away for lunch and to mull it over. We decided to get it from that shop, an H2B would like a ring (yay!) (I did make him promise that HE wanted one, not just doing it to make me happy.) went back to the shop (hour and a half later??) and the prices had gone up!!! They had just had the new prices in for the day. We think they also told us the wrong prices to start with.
To conclude we have just ordered them online from where my engagement ring came from, saving over just over £150.:T0 -
going to get ours tomorrow, left it a bit late with just under 2 months to go0

I think the jewllers hype the increase up a lot. Gold is at it's highest for a long time at the moment and the market is not predicting it to rise much further. Allegedly it's because Gordon Brown sold off our gold reserves so we have to buy in now I guess.
One tip, if you don't mind your jewellery not being stamped, is to buy from abroad. Not looked into this yet but I am expecting, even with customs, it would be cheaper. The other trick is to get them made bespoke - not from the most expensive jeweller you can find but small independent ones. If you have anything already that you don't really want then take it and see if the metal from that can be used. I just had a necklace made using gold from a ring I didn't want anymore and using the diamond as the pendant. Worth a quote for bespoke as you'll probably be very pleasantly surprised.0 -
We got ours just after we got engaged to take advantage of the lower VAT at the time and mine is almost £200 more expensive now!!Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0
