I Hate Aol

Options
The customer service at AOL is absolutely terrible - I've been to 6 different call centres around the world - most of the time in India!!! They can hardly speak English (they are programmed like robots and they repeat the same 5 English sentences that they were programmed to say) My AOL BROADBAND is not working now for 2 weeks and everytime I call, I have to go through the whole process every time and then get bounced from one call centre to the other - I called the cancellation department to cancel my membership & they said that they are not authorised to cancel my membership - Why are they called the cancellation department, if they are not authorised to cancel????!!%%$%^&###??? DOES ANYBODY ELSE FEEL THE SAME WAY?

No sorry, I've had to call AOL on about 3 occasions and have had excellent service from them. I've always been put through to America when I called and don't forget it's a freephone number which in my eyes is excellent.

I had duff advice from a Call Centre operative who had quite poor english. We couldn't get our broadband modem working following the instructions. She told us to disgard the yellow lead which connects the modem to the pc:confused:. I googled to find a solution to our problem in the end. Basically as we have our pc upstairs on an extension lead we had too manyof those little boxes they give splitting the line. The instruction says no more that 5 metres and put one on each end of extension cable. We have a 10 metre extension cable and by taking off the one downstairs where the main socket is the modem sprang into action. Now we just have to cure the ring back. If I make a call while on line when I put the phone down at the end of the call it starts ringing.

I have no problem most of the time with AOL, but on the occasion when I was trying in vain to get onto Broadband I had horrendous problems with AOL's call centres. I spent hour after hour on the telephone, speaking with various call centres. After many calls, I yet again phoned and explained the problem all over again to a woman who sounded to be at the Indian call centre, who gave me her name. We went down the route of her explaining to me what actions to take, at which time I stated that I had already done those things. She then fobbed me off with yet another "try this".

I got off the phone and tried what she had suggested. When that did not work, I again phoned and blow me down got through to the same woman - I thought "great", I've already explained it all to her so she will remember me. However, when I gave her my telephone number and name she put two and two together and hung up on me. Great service!

I had have had poor service from AOL over several months now. The first problem arose when I tried to upgrade to broadband. Firstly they lost my order for two months and didn't do the upgrade. During this period I had repeated problems with dial -up resulting in frequent lost connection. After numerous phone calls to customer services they eventually offered me £30 compensation in the form of credit and Gold broadband for the price of silver. This I accepted. The broadband pack arrived, but I could not get it to fully install. I phoned technical help who after suggesting things I had already tried, told me to send back the pack and that they couldn't help me.My computer had all the requirements. I am now still on dial up.

I was then billed for broadband and the £30 was never credited to my account. I phoned to complain. They promised that the next few bills would have the £30 and the over payment deducted. But no, they then billed me a bizzare figure of an extra £17.39. I phoned to complain. This time I requested over payments be credited to my bank account. This they did. However it has taken a phone call every month since November to get a correct amount billed and I still have £4 of credit to use up.

Changing internet providers is on my 'to do' list for my next holiday!

    Hi,

Glad to see that my experience of AOL was not personal then.

Numerous problems with idoits at the call centres giving useless solutions to the problem.

A common method is to tell you to delete a certain file and then re-start AOL and call them back when you have done that. This gets the Operator off the hook for not knowing how to fix the problem.

They also have two teirs of advisor - One for the idiots and one for the more experienced customer. trouble is the lower grade operator THINKS he is better equipped to answer your query than he is in practice.

I have found INDIA to be totally useless EVERY time but Ireland to be very good most of the time. Never had an American tho.

Anyway, to top it all, I was put throught to EIGHT (8) seperate operators when trying to get my M.A.C. cod to migrate to E7even, which I eventually did.

Better service - No faults - And SOOooo much cheaper and faster.

If you decide to Join me Please PM me and I will give you my referral code and will split the £40.00 with you. https://www.e7even.com

Ive been with AOL for years now and all but for the odd customer service member ive had no problems at all, i downgraded from gold to silver a month or so ago and cant tell any difference which did bug me a little as i thought id been paying for a faster connection than id actually been getting but other than that Im a happy bunny.

Ive considered moving to other ISP's loads of times but after considering the join up fees and 50p a minute calls for helplines i decided im better off where i am :)

I have nightmares over my dealings with AOL, i have an AOL / MBNA credit card , the idea being that you get points from what you spend and use them towards your AOL subscription. I currently have 18,500 points and it is impossible to redeem them, the online service comes back with your accounts not valid/ you don't have enough points. Phone them and AOL send me to MBNA who tell me to phone AOL ARGHHH!!!!!
    WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..

I have to admit im pretty fed up with aol today, after receiving an email today regarding the talk talk £14,99 package for 1mb + evening and weekend calls, I decided it was time to move on from aol.

I rang customer services only to be confronted by a rep i could barely understand, i explained everything to her in as much detail as possible and asked how i went about getting a mac code, it was then that she went into all this speel about how i couldnt possibly be right about the offer, the conversation went on for a little over 15 minutes, until i eventually asked to speak to a supervisor.

Anyway the upshot is that although i hav been with aol broadband now for well over 14 months, they have told me that after my initial 12 months i was put onto another 12 month contract with them without my knowledge :( i had no idea that this is what they did  now im apparently tied to them again for another 10 months, im sure this cant be right,

I argued with them on the phone for what seems like an eternity but the supervisor just kept repeating the same crap over and over again, in the end she offered to give me 1 month free but that was all she could do and to ring back in 10 months if i still wanted to leave

They are bulling you. You signed up for a minimum of 12 months. They cannot then decide to enter into a 2nd 12 month contract on their own. For there to be a valid contract in law both parties have to agree to contract. I would contact trading standards.
