Unblocking a waste pipe.

Before I start trawling the yellow pages anyone have a rough idea of what this might cost me?
I have a bath and sink that have a combined waste pipe which is about 2 foot long then goes into a elbow joint, throught the floor and joins up with a metal soil stack. Years of crud has now built up and I will need it jetted out ( can they just do this without taking apart ) or replaced.
I've tried rodding, chemicals etc myself and its fairly unnefective after a few days of being clear.
Dont have anyone who can recommend to me so yellow pages?
Cheers,

How difficult would you find it just to replace the pipe.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Im fairly ok with doing DIY
But once this goes through the floor ( loo upstairs/soil pipe in kitchen underneath ) and into the PVC pipe to metal soil pipe joiner ( plus limited space ) I'd panic a bit. Gawd knows whats in there bunging it up. :eek:0 -

not unless it can unhook itself, jump 2 foot across the bathroom and squeeze doen the sink plughole..
LOL
anyway talked to a plumber and Im going to try soemthing called scotch hair and grease remover?0 -
Your original post clearly indicates that the output from the bath and basin (sinks go in kitchens) connects to a cast iron soil stack. If you have lost a rim block down the loo and it has found its way round the bend and into the soil pipe it may well have lodged at the point where these two pipes join, causing an obstruction and providing a nice location for soap and hair to build up thus restricting flow. Sorry but I can't see what is funny about that suggestion.consumers_revenge wrote: »

Yes that will possibly do the job but its expensive. Try similar products from supermarket first or if you are a real MSEer then soda crystals followed by a kettle full of boiling water is the cheapest alternative.anyway talked to a plumber and Im going to try soemthing called scotch hair and grease remover?

Sorry mate but no one in my neck of the woods calls it a basin....its a sink.
The one in the kitchen is a kitchen sink.
Tried the rest, including drainsnakes, crystals , vinegar, tnt......all only relieve symptoms not cause.

try using a drain blaster gun first. might save you a small fortune.Get some gorm.0 -
Hi,
If you have a power washer, depending on the make , you could send this down the pipe.
It means taking the trap off the waste of a fitting such as a basin (no NOT a sink ).
They don't like too many bends of a tight radius though.

In the North East they colloquially refer to a Swing Boat as a Shuggy Boat but its still technically a Swing Boat. So basins go in bathooms and cloakrooms and sinks go in kitchens and utilities whether you like it or not.

Got a similar problem myself and my plumber doesn't have the equipment as the blockage appears to be in the stack.
I've booked Dyno Rod for Monday, cheaper through the week if booked online so I'll settle for a smelly weekend being unable to use basin and bath in the bathroom, I can always use the sink in the kitchen
£86 is the basic charge shown on the website and my plumber will pop in later and replace the pipe under the basin and the boxing in of the pipes, hopefully the problem will be sorted fairly quickly.0
