Positive feedback for lousy sellers

  • Postage is clearly stated in the listing. If you're not happy to pay £4 postage on a t-shirt that actually costs £1.50 to send, don't bid. What bothers me is when the seller says he'll post the item first class then uses the cheaper parcel rate. I've marked sellers down for that.

You shouldn't punish the seller when it's Royal Mail's fault. Yesterday I had to go down to the depot to pick up a parcel that had been sitting there for 10 days. The postman never put a card through my door so I didn't know it was there. I only found out when I contacted the seller, and she sent me the tracking number. It's not her fault that it took so long for me to get the item. She posted it the day after the auction ended. Unfortunately, there are plenty of idiot buyers who would leave her a negative for that, which would hurt her %.

Though those sort of negs do beg the question - in the case of the first, why hasn't it been removed as a wreck, or in the second, why has that gone to a neg when someone else doesn't have a neg for that sort of thing, or is charging less postage in general?

I'm going from bitter experience here, like I said I was wrecked myself and didn't get the negs removed, but with more sales going wrong in the last year for me as a buyer than they ever have in the past, there are plenty of other items out there from sellers who strangely have never met any of these allegedly TSFE picky buyers. As someone who is pretty careful with their money, I just move onto the next person. Accumulating so-called "unfair" negs like a badge of some kind of honour is not responsible in itself, particularly since you can negotiate with buyers to get them removed nowadays.

A lot of people aren't regular sellers or don't know how to get negs removed though. There are plenty of other examples though and as a reasonable person when you read some of the negatives that are left they are not reasonable reasons what so ever and just petty half the time.

I've said this for as long as I can remember, as a seller you should be able to charge what ever you like for postage. The postage charge is clearly shown so the buyer has the choice to pay it or not. The postage cost star rating is totally pointless, they may aswell have item price star rating aswell.

If they actually put FVF on the total cost just like paypal there would be no need for people to put postage high to try and make a bit more money.

I'm sorry if that sounds unfair, but I'm only acting like 99% of eBay buyers react.

No wonder I get such good bargains!

I tend to buy from much smaller sellers (usually less than 50 FB), and one had received 3 negs from the same person who had bought 3 x 99p items, complaining about slow delivery, when auction clearly stated 7 to 9 days!

So long as the seller has responded calmly to the neg, then I couldn't care less. If they've used capital letters or ranted, then I'd avoid them!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Could you get this kind of feedback removed? If the auction says 7-9 days, and the item arrives within that time, can you complain to eBay about the unfair negs?

No because it is still the buyers opinion, same as with postage.

It doesn't ask 'did it arrive between 7-9 days as per seller estimates' it merely wants the buyers perception of how that seller did. So if the seller was used to buying stuff and having it delivered in 3-4 days max, waiting a week would seem unusual and not therefore warrant the same 5* that immedaite postage would get.

Same as postage. I buy a lot of the same things and know roughly what they cost to send. So when I leave stars I tend to leave 5* across the board, but if I come across one of the sellers that add all the costs to postage it stands out as unusual, and I would probably drop to 4* merely to show it is not as good as the competition.

  • Thanks, Soolin. That makes sense. Of course, it doesn't take into account the shipping method. If I pay for special delivery, I expect the seller to post the item within a day. If I only pay for 2nd class, I don't expect it to arrive as quickly. Buyers like to use the cheapest method, but don't like to wait.

It's been a while since I've bought anything on Amazon Marketplace, but I'm pretty sure it used to ask you whether the item arrived by a specific date. Or maybe that was Play.com?

I hate leaving a negative, not sure why really but like now i have just bought an item, that had 3 choice colours according to the picture, so click on one that describes the colour and hey presto the item turns up 3 days later in a different shade to what i had ordered.
I emailed the seller who basically told me it was my fault, that she would refund 9at a cost of return p and p to me), when i pointed out the difference in shades she said nobody else had complained.
In between the time of me winning the item and actually receiving it she also emailed me to say there was no logo on the item as the manufacturer had not put the logos on, as i was away at the weekend i did not have time to respond to this email and the item was waiting for me when i returned home.

So all in all i'm not really happy with the item , but can't do a lot about it, but cant leave a neg either.

Why can't you leave a neg? The seller sent the wrong colour item, as you mentioned a logo presumably you wanted the logo on it as well.
If a business seller can't get that right they should at least cover the return postage to you & if they don't that is what the red blob is for, to let others know that in your case they let you down.
If you don't then feedback is a complete waste of time.
